Congratulations to Ash Barty, 2020 Year End #1 for the 2nd straight year

Are they awarding YE #1 this year on either tour?

Said before it would farcical if they do, not just because of the suspension but because ranking points from 2019 count making it ridiculous. The Barty situation highlights this.

Ash Barty deserves lots of credit for her career so far but deserves zero credit for being 2020 YE #1. I really hope it isn't awarded.

To clarify all the above thoughts apply equally to the ATP tour.

This is actually a fair point, I was just going off rankings, unsure what they've said about YE#1 in which case i'll request the thread to be deleted. So they just don't recognize a YE#1?

My question to this is and I understand the ridiculousness and said that on the WTA thread but what's the alternative? Whoever is this years YE#1 coshares with the one who sits a top the rankings aka Barty? But what if that turns out to be say Sofia Kenin who even if she wins the title she wouldn't be #2 either? Even with 2 slams? Do we punish players and throw out their ranking points for tournaments that weren't held? E.g. Halep and Wimbledon or Barty and the YEC. Or do we punish players for skipping a tournament due to Covid fears e.g. Andreescu, Barty, etc.? There was no good solution.

cancel Barty's YE #1 i.e. do not enter it in the record books :D

Because I'm in the small majority that believe no tournaments should have taken place during this crises.
Therefore Barty as no.1 sums up how ludicrous this year has been. So why not her?

Not really sure congratulations are in order as she hasn't actually done anything this year but the rankings continue to work in their odd and mysterious way which isn't her fault of course.

The rule should've been that you can't keep all your 2019 points at both the US Open and the French Open if you don't play at least one of them because this really is embarrassing.
