Coric is 3-2 v Nadal in H2H - A tough match up, or simply right place right time?

Nadal hasn't had it all his way with Coric since 2014.

Its a very close H2H, but Coric has clearly not been a comfortable player for Nadal to deal with.

Interesting, Coric just like Djokovic, is 2-0 against Nadal in Cincinnati.

Coric is like a Djokovic-lite. He’s difficult to play for anyone.

He’s also been difficult for Federer. Coric is losing the H2H 4-2 but in two matches (IW 18 and Rome 19) Fed was being outplayed and needed third set OT and some match point saves to narrowly survive.

This is true. Federer could have easily lost both matches.

Rafa had appendicitis when he lost to Coric in Basel in 2014. Rafa shouldn't have played but he wanted to fulfil his obligations to the tournament. In 2016 in Cincy, Rafa was nursing several injuries including wrist injury but because he'd gone to the Olympic Games because he didn't want to miss out of being the Spanish Flag Bearer for the 2nd time he went back on tour having been out since Wimbledon but he was just going through the motions. In 2022 at Cincy, Rafa was also nursing injuries. I've often thought that Coric has been lucky to catch Rafa when he wasn't at his best.

Rafael Nadal finally got rid of his pesky appendix, doctor says he’ll be back in a month

Let's see. Coric's 3 wins were as follows:

-2014 Basel. Nadal missed the summer hard court stretch, including the U.S. Open, due to a back injury. Then, when he came back, he was having issues with his appendix. During Basel, Nadal announced that he was pulling out of Bercy due to his appendix issue. After losing to Coric in Basel, Nadal had an appendectomy.
-2016 Cincinnati. Nadal had his wrist injury that caused him to miss Wimbledon. He came back to lose to del Potro and Nishikori at the Olympics, had his loss to Coric at Cincinnati, and then lost to Pouille at the U.S. Open, Dimitrov in Beijing, and Troicki in Shanghai.
-2022: Nadal fought through his abdominal tear to beat Fritz at Wimbledon before withdrawing against Kyrgios. His loss against Coric in Cincinnati was his first match back. Nadal would then lose to Tiafoe at the U.S. Open, Tommy Paul in his his first match at Bercy, and then Fritz and FAA at the WTF Finals.

I think it's fair to say that the stretches between June 2014-December 2016 and August 2022-present (when he's played) have been the worst two stretches of Nadal's career since he became a top player. That's when his 3 losses to Coric occurred.

Amazing. Healthy Rafa is still undefeated against Coric then

None of Nadal, Federer or Murray liked playing Coric. For some reason, he was tough for all 3. Maybe because he based his game off Djokovic who they also had it tough against.

He also doesn't collapse mentally like others in his age group. Dude is a big-game player. These wins aren't flukes

I don't like coric. This guy took himself to seriously and his game was not worth much in the end.

What coric reminds me of is those faceless people that are added in Project Mayhem in the movie Fight club.

No charisma nothing. Just serious all the time. Didn't even grow hair. He looked like a soldier more than an athlete. Not a fan..

Coric vs Djokovic would be a matchup that may cure my chronical insomnia.
He said I don't eat tiramisu because I am in training all the time.

For all his training and proclaiming himself best of his gen, he couldn't get a proper forehand ever. Zverev being a year younger got to masters title easily. Far easily.
