Could Venus/Serena doubles rekindle their careers?

I just remembered when Venus and Serena reached the dominated (Venus in 2000 and 2001) and Serena in 2002 and a little bit of 2003, they played doubles! Do you think that could help them (particularly Venus) get back their competitive edge they have lost since Wimbledon 2003. Serena has been off and on as of late and Venus just is lacking confidence. Do you think that really helped them in their singles matches more than they think? I really think if they started playing doubles again at the slams, they can get in great practice, especially working hard to hold serve and their transition games and of course their volleying. Anyone want to add their 2 cents?

Yes, if they want to expend more time and energy rekindling their careers - which they would not see as being in need of improvement anyhow.
Great way to improve mobility which is obviously an issue for Venus, and to add confidence to transition and volleys.
They don't like practising, so important fitness element too.
So many threads on the sisters recently.
A better question might be how much do they like tennis, except as a stage!

Indeed.

They play few tournaments, as compared with other WTA players. This is presumably so they may pursue their other 'hobbies'. Asking them to play more tennis (as in doubles) would only offend them at this point.

I don't think doubles will help them rekindle their tennis careers. Not that I don't think Venus and Serena are great tennis players, but people don't fear them anymore. I remember watching matches back in 2002 and 2003 and players used to fear the Williams sisters; often times, their opponents would be happy if they didn't get bageled. Now, it seems, players don't think the Williams sisters invincible, and like religion, once you stop believing, the magic ends.

I would like to see them play better tennis....as in stop the non-sense fashion/interior design thing that seems to be distracting them from their games. But, I'm willing to bet the house that neither Venus nor Serena will make it into the top ten day in, day out. Every once in awhile we might see Serena crack the top five, then go back down, or Venus crack the top 10 and then hover in the top 20. But, the days of the Williams sisters are over, unless THEY decide otherwise.

For sure, it would help them to play doubles again and they would probably rack up some more titles and $$$ Unfortunately, they are too busy with the business world to even train hard enough to dominate in singles again.

I think at this stage in their career that dabbling in their hobby now which is tennis, playing doubles would actually be thought of as demeaning to them.
