Cross tie-off on Head IS4 OS

Hi guys.

I'm very new to stringing.

Just completed racquet 15.

Which was Head IS4 Oversize.

Klipper said that the bottom cross should tie off on 5.

But 4 had the wider grommet hole - 5 was unpassable.

Same shape as the 5th on the top cross - which looked correct.

Could there be a mistake on the Klipper site?

Anyway, I tied off on the 4th.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers, Paul

i S4 OS
Range 53 - 61
Pattern 16x19
Mains Skip 7,9T - 6,8,10B [T=Top of hoop, B=Bottom of hoop]
MTO 9B
1st X 7T
XTO 5T - 5B
Hole 5B and 4B should have mains in them. The last cross should come out of 6B and go into 5B to be tied off. There is a shorter run of untensioned string using 5B rather the 4B. It is OK if you use 4B, but you should have been able to get it thru 5B. It could well be you have a later generation of the i S4. KM uses the the manufacturers' instructions or Guide to post their instructions.

4 is the very bottom grommet in the side strip are you sure you tied off on 4 or just miscounted?

Hi Irvin.

On this frame it is one to the side of the strip of grommets at the bottom.

The strip has 6 grommets.

So three to the left and three to the right.

I've tied off one to the left of the third

I just checked the Klipper site again.

The I S6's and I S9's tie-off at 4B.

Could it be that later versions of the I S4 switched to this?

I just checked the USRSA manual and you tied off on the correct hole, which they call 4T, T=Throat.

For future reference, a lot of us tie off on holes that weren't originally designated as tie-offs. I, for instance, do not like to tie off poly crosses on natural gut mains and will enlarge cross string holes with a waxed awl to avoid it.

Thanks so much for the reply. I thought it looked correct, but just wanted to check.

There are 6 grommets in the throat (1, 2, and 3.) 4 is the bottom grommet on the side strip of grommets.

Ah gotcha. Sorry Irvin. I'm new to all of this.

Yes you are correct.

But thankfully a poster above found the pattern for me.

And it was supposed to be tied at 4.

Which is a big relief.

This tennis stringing malarkey is confusing for us newbies.
