Current best forehand and backhand are Djokovic and Murray

Watching this season I think best forehand goes to Novak Djokovic.
No errors, reliable shot , can dictate rallies, good at offense and defense.
Novak is well known for his great backhand but i think his forehand is underrated and by far best at game now!

Best backhand goes to Andy Murray by far. Sick of reading how Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka have better backhands. Murray is even better than Djokovic. He is able to generate more power, can hit sick suprising winners, better slice, his backhand is as reliable as Novaks. Just destroyed everybody backhand to backhand rallies.

So i think Novak has currently best forehand and Andy has best backhand and it is not even close...
discuss..

Both are wrong. Best BH belongs to Djokovic and the best forehand ... still belongs to the older guy named Federer.

I'd say at the moment, Djokovic's forehand is king. It's ridiculous how many risky shots he was taking in the Rome final with ease and how easy it looks for him to redirect any level of pace and take low balls as they come. His backhand is probably also the best on tour at the moment, though I think Murray could give him a run for his money on that one.

I agree with you. Just don't agree that it's not even close. Djokovic, Nishikori, Wawrinka, Murray, they all have amazing backhands and not one of them is the best "by far". But yeah, I would pick Murray's as well.

Definitely agree that Djokovic's forehand is the best at the moment, and it always has been underrated.

All I know is that the best return belongs to Murray, by far.. thats why Murray eat like breakfast guys like Raonic, and DJokovic is more suceptible to upsets against big servers... Of course djokovic djokovic has the more solid baseline game of the two.. thus edges him..

Wrong.

Obviously these titles go to the fabled peak zoning in form Stanimal.

Duh.

Wrong.

Peak Marat Safin had the best FH and BH and serve and net game on tour when he played. Nobody else, past, present or future comes close.

Duh.

At least you aren't a fan of low percentage shots claiming Kei got a better backhand than Djokovic. He's still miles behind Murray's BH, let alone Djokovic's.

If only Chico could hear that!

It was sick in that Rome final and given that the game's two best forehands aren't exactly great currently, I think that's a fair assessment too

Maybe backhands yes. Nole and Andy have great ones, particularly off serve returns.

Forehands. Now anybody can hit modern forehand pretty dam well, so to speak.

Novak Djokovic does not have the best forehand on tour, but he is the best at consistently putting himself in the position of hitting great forehands.

And in that vein, he does have the best ground-game on tour currently. And top three on the backhand, no doubt.

P.S. I don't think even the Chicster in his glory days claimed Djokovic had the best forehand on tour.

How good is your stroke if you can't consistently put yourself in position to hit it?

I could have peak Fed or peak Nadal's FH and I would still be garbage if I couldn't hit them.

Court coverage and stroke quality is obviously not the exact same thing, although interdependent.

In the same vein, plenty of doubles players have vastly better volleys than Fed, but most of them would fail miserably in putting themselves in the position to hit them against someone like Djokovic (with approach shots, and moving towards the net etc). They still have better volleys. One could argue Roger has the better net game for singles, just like I still argue Novak has the best ground game.

There's really no dispute that Djoker has the best forehand atm (notice no one has even attempted to offer a credible alternative). While positioning is a big part of that you'd be hard pressed to cite anything technically wrong with his mechanics. The best knock on Djokers forehand is that he occasionally plays conservatively and doesn't pull the trigger as often as he did in 2011 but that's a strategy choice. When he pulls the trigger it's the closest thing to a peak Fed FH we've seen since Feds FH died. (Not knocking Rafas FH, it's just great in a different manner from Fed/Djokers)

The backhand is a much closer chase. You can definitely make an argument for Murray tho. When Stan is GOATing (very rare) his is out of this world.

Best FH: Federer. Nadal, of course, has the best forehand on clay, but Federer's FH is the best on all surfaces.

Best 2HBH:Djokovic. Beats Murray's and Nishikori's just because of Djokovic's baseline game to break down most opponents. I.e. BH to BH rally with Nadal).

Best 1HBH: Stanimal! Had to beat. Power, control, it's a thing of beauty.

I am a big fan of Federer, but his FH isn't the best right now...obviously not.
Did you for example watch his Match against Seppi at the AO? or the final in Rome?

So many shanks, missed shots, net shots, nothing like 2004/2005/2006, where his FH wasn't out of this world.

But I agree that Murrays backhand is the best at the moment. Watching his matches on clay this year...wow!

Agreed, simply unplayable... the other guys on tour are thankful it isnt sustainable!

It is true that Murray is killing things with his BH atm. Atm on any given day Id have to agree that Djoker's fh spells doom. Will Murray and Novak end up on opposite sides ofthe draw for theFrench?

Sorry, but we have heard this many times recently, but Djokovic has the best BH.

FH I'm not sure, it is definitely up there. Not the best FH you have seen through 15 years or so, fed peak is on another level, and nadals FH too. But noles FH is still very underrated and great.
