^^ You have thread fatigue, sir. Take a rest. Fans support people they like. Vince Spadea is still talked about affectionately on this board because he was delightful in spite of a record losing streak. Monfils has never won a major but draws large crowds because he has an engaging personality. The Chicago Cubs haven't won a world series since three years before the death of Tolstoy but sell out Wrigley Field because they have always been known as "the lovable losers." Winning majors has very little to do with it. Ivan Lendl won plenty of majors but Donald Dell, who handled his business affairs during Lendl's playing days, talks about how hard it was to get endorsements for Lendl because he never smiled. Nalbandian and Davydenko doubtless have supporters in their own countries primarily but I doubt either has ever achieved any sort of cult status elsewhere because their public personas are generally rather grim (if not scandalous and sociopathic, in the case of Davydenko).
