solid match... grigor should be proud of his performance the first two sets...

he may seem disappointed but no doubt about it, he has arrived.

Oh well, it's too bad that Dimi had to lose, but it's great to see Stan going through. I'm content with the tennis that has been played.

Now Stan will rematch Jo, they have played quite some epics, tough 3 setter in MC this year, and two 5 setters in Roland Garros in the last two years.

So, the future GOAT still nowhere closer to his first title. Logical, solid win in the end for Stan. Djoko: you'd better get yout s--t together for Rome. Enough fooling around with the clown exits already! Come on.

So. Somebody explain that one then.

That was a *bizarre* mental capitulation from Dimitrov. He just very very suddenly fell flat and never regained the needed intensity, and meanwhile Wawrinka sensed it, pounced and took advantage of the space that was given to him to control the match.
But that's been a summary of his career so far. Always wondering when (and if) it will change though.

I don't think this is just stamina, not just physical anyway. There was also a mismanagement of mental stamina. He chose to sit deeper and do more running which I presume was a conscious decision that didn't really hold a lot of sense.

Good match.

Grigor needs to learn to handle the mental headgames and cheating from his opponents better. He was able to deal with Djokovic, because it's expected, but I think Wawa took him off guard with it.

Even though he lost Grigor still had a terrific tournament. He's a guy none of the top players want to see in their draw that's for sure.

The new ones on the block have to realise that tennis is not all about a long slog but also that you have to use your brain until you are exhausted mentally. Nadal, Djoko and Fed come into their own when the others are wilting because they have years of experience of being in this situation and are primed to act when they see their opponent beginning to wilt .
