Dimitrov Vs. Wawrinka (Madrid 2013)

Dimitrov is hot off beating the world no.1 and has basically come of age and found his mental toughness and fight. The crowd adores him.

Wawrinka is in rude health having just won a clay court 250 title by beating Ferrer in the final. Also, seems deadly focus all season ever since his match with Djokovic at the Aussie Open. Trounced Murray at Monte Carlo.

They've only faced off once before, but that was a couple of years ago at the Aussie Open (Wawrinka winning in straights).

Will be a big test for Grigor to back up his win over Novak and we will find out who has the superior single handed backhand of the two.

Wawrinka will win this, too strong I think. I like them both, shame they were both in the quarter with Djokovic. If I had to pick I'd say I'd like Dimitrov to carry on his momentum and do some more damage. Wawrinka in 2 I think though.

Stan da man in 3, Aussie match with Djokovic had more power than yesterday match of Djokovic and Dimitrov. Beside he's been proving himself strong afterward.

Shame they have to meet so early, but I gotta root for Dimitrov. He's been knocking on the door of something big all season and with a great win over Djokovic, I hope he goes as far as possible. Plus the way the draw is, Nadal will probably have an easy opponent in the final but I feel like Dimitrov could actually give him a better match than someone like Berych or Murray, just because he's got nothing to lose and even if he does lose he's a breath of fresh air.

The thing is, Wawa is playing like a top 5 player recently, and Dimitrov will find it difficult to win back to back matches on such a high level.

If Dimitrov wins this it would be a bigger surprise (speaking for myself only) than him beating Djokovic. I watched Wawrinka beat him quite easily at the AO a couple of years ago, and Dimitrov has been similarly dispatched by Gasquet and Almagro. I can see a pattern there, something of a mirror match-up he can't solve to this day.
