Djokovic: I had “a bit of luck” on Federer’s second match point at Wimbledon 2019

Noble of Novak to play down his achievement but he won against Federer deservedly. Talking about luck is nonsense because everything that happens on court happens depending on how players move an hit the ball. Only external factor on tennis court is crowd and Fed had them all on his side and still couldn't win. (inserts one finger lady)

So, he admitted about one bit.

Now I will behave nicely and ask most politely one very simple question

What was the other part?!

I mean he was but the fact that he still won says more about Thiem’s tennis ability than his own.

I don’t quite agree with this but I think my view is just a more polite (and realistic) way of putting it. Both Federer and Djokovic at 32 (almost 33) were a bit past their bests, still good enough to beat all but the very best, but not quite good enough to beat the very best. So, yes, Djokovic at 27 was a tougher opponent than Thiem. But that doesn’t mean Thiem lacked ability. He just wasn’t quite the very best.

Djokovic: I had “a bit of luck”

Dude that's half of your career at Wimbledon lol. Opponents choking & vacuum of actual competition outside of a dinosaur Roger.
Choking is part of the game, unfortunately. Novak, legitimately has won SEVEN Wimbledon Titles. Deal with IT! Nadal is practically the same age as Novak, so why didn't he win more Wimbledons? The reason is that Novak is a better grass court player, as Rafa is the better clay court player. Also, Novak is the better hard court player vs Nadal.

7 Wimbledons, 4 title defences, 28 match winning streak and counting. This match paved the way to Djokovic placing himself amongst the absolute legends of the game on the lawn, where real tennis is played. HC goat aswell. Some other players can only dominate on one singular surface.
You realize Rafa has 6 HC majors too right lol

I am sure that injured person with zero Wimbledon finals in 11 years is more worthy of stunning grass accolades.

Rafa's grass prime ended in 2011, period.
His peak is much higher than Novak.

On Grass Federer is that dog who has a bigger size but lacks fight, Novak is that dog who has the most fight in him, so yes, Roger failing to deliver that 1 serve is symbolic of how Novak is worthy man to sit on 7 titles there.

No excuse, no IFs and BUTs.
Not even close.

Novak would have shown more “fight” if he’d beaten Fed when Fed was even in his early-post prime and Novak was at his peak and defending champ.

Instead he couldn’t even take Fed to 5 sets.

Every Novak victory after Fed’s 2012 dismantling of Novak has Fed at even more of a a disadvantage.

Playing 5 setters and facing match points against at post-prime Fed and when there’s barely any other grass players left (except for Murray - who had his number in 2013) is not something to hang your “mental giant” or “grass goat killer” hat on

Novak is a great champion - and a great grass court player - no question. But Fed’s grass dominance - which came and went long before Novak’s - has never been overshadowed by Novak…and if Novak wins 10 more Wimbledons like he has the last few years - it never will be.

It was luck.

Wow.

I didn’t think 40-15 could get any sadder.

Now it’s not even good tennis that destroyed the hearts of thousands of Fed fans.

It’s just dumb luck.

Well.

That does not help.

I never said he was better on HCs than Novak but to win 6 HC slams is impressive asf, that's the same as Andre Agassi who many say dominated hard courts

Sampras dominated HC 7 /25 slams participated. Novak 12/36. That's domination

Nadal 6/33 - That's vulturing at best.

Longevity counts for nothing? Sampras was finished when he retired.
Love how he convientiely leaves out Agassi who was 6/31 on HC lol also if 6 slams is vulturing that means ATGs like Becker/Edberg were vultures since they won 6 majors in their whole careers

Wondering if it is a sly reference to Federer’s press conference after another famous match point loss at the 2011 US Open? That passing shot didn’t look like it had a lot of luck to it.

Next year by the very end of it - Novak will be as old as Federer was in 2018 when he won his last grand slam title! And if by the results of 2023 Novak will end the year as multi-slam champion it will mean he achieved more as the oldest winner of slams, than Federer did in respective age...Try to convince me then and there Federer stopped winning due to his age in previous decade, while not looking dumb when saying it...the competition is a factor yes i'm not gonna argue that and yes Federer had prime Djokovic to be dealt with and slightly less than prime Nadal as well...i also acknowledge that, but the main point of the argument was never that...but the fact, that he cannot win as much as Nadalovic due to his age...it was never about losing h2h against them, it was not being able to win as many slams and keeping up with them...
