He's playing doubles with Marko in Qatar. I think they're 0-5 or something like that together, but they're obviously not playing it to win it.

That's some fine ballstriking. The Bas guy can redirect balls really well.

Yes, high quality tennis here. Djokovic still put him out.

Makes you wonder that even with ball striking such as this, the guy got one set. You need three in Melbourne.

After a brilliant performance against Dzumhur in round one, Djokovic has been un-exceptional and vulnerable in Doha. His struggles aren't because of too many errors/lack of sharpness, an occasional problem he has remedied time and time again for the majors, but because his shots don't have any zip.

I think playing doubles with his brother, while in itself is not much, disrupted Novak's post-match routines. His recovery from day to day is clearly subpar.
Even if he falls to RBA or in final, he is battle tested here in Doha.

Should retire to save face. :-D

I would have been annoyed if Djokovic pulled out the win, when it went to the third than the other way round. He has played as many sets as he needs between Abu Dhabi and Doha. He does not need anymore. Time to get down to Melbourne, get used to the faster conditions there and concentrate on court positioning. The game is there, it is just about court positioning.

Naturally I have always wanted him to win. But he's had more than enough practice already so I am not disappointed much. Played three inspired singles opponents this week and went far in doubles as well. He should be up for the challenge now, just got to take a bit more initiative which he is more than capable of and fix that positioning.

Yes, he doesn't need anymore actual match play now heading into AO.

This would be a pretty normal loss even for prime Novak. Windy conditions, a though opponent who took a set off him twice during the Novak Slam run. Now add the fatigue from playing doubles. He seemed to be pretty frustrated but it may have been due to start of the season and some hunger for are emotions. He got some good practice this tournament with 3 really good baseliners and some doubles action as a bonus. The worst thing from this loss is probably a new wave of brillant "the tour evolved" jokes that comes here every Novak's loss. Now's the time for some rest before the 15th.

How powerful can you imagine him?
So he will for sure be even more powerful than that?

That’s incredible.
Well, let me put it this way.

Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Rodney Laver the Rocket? I thought not. It's not a story the ATP would tell you. He's a tennis legend. Rod Laver was an ATG of the early ages of pro tennis, so powerful and so skilled he could use his racquet to beat his opponents and win slams. He had such a knowledge of the grass courts, he could win all 4 of the slams in a single year.

Is it possible to learn this power? Only if Djokovic embraces his dark side.

I think Novak already embraced his dark sides and he has been playing like a Jedi for many years already.

AO final...Six time champ v six time champ. You cannot get a better narrative than that. One we have not seen before.
Incredible really to think there have been two players in the same era who've won the same Grand Slam tournament six times each.

Interesting that Federer and Djokovic have both won this event 6 times and yet have never played each other in the final!

Just get the #7 Novak. That and a 2nd RG is all I really want. Pls. You can retire after that
Strangely enough I'm not really that bothered about him winning the French Open again but I would dearly love to see him triumph in Australia once more, not only to become the outright GOAT of that tournament(still can't quite believe Federer won the last two editions ) but it'd also mean he'd become the first male player to win 3 slams in a row on 3 separate occasions, something not even the great Swiss in his heyday could achieve. If Novak did it by actually defeating Federer in the final, the RF trolls on this forum would go into total meltdown and that's something we should all want to see. :D;)

It didn't cross my mind that Djokovic could do it three slams in a row three times.

Thoughts on the draw?

Some tricky tests early on but with that amount of match practice he got in Doha, he should be ready for this.

Not that I think he wouldn't be capable of handling both, but I am kinda glad that Fedal both ended up in another half. Very often Novak needed to go through both of them in a projected draw to win the title.

Djokovic should get to quarters without too much problems, after that I can see him dropping sets but winning the title at the end of the fortnight.

Fine fine Djokovic fans. I’ve been getting along with the Nadal contingent over the year, it’s time to get to know some of you too. I think Lew battering Djokovic relentlessly for half a year convinced me your guy is OK too.

Best of luck with the 2019 season. Of course I’m rooting for Federer but whatever happens may it be a good season for everyone.

P.S.
Aside from poor Murray I think the draw looks well balanced for all three legends.
