It would be a great matchPeak for peak? A five set battle, but Guga would likely edge it more often that not. He was such a natural on that court and absolutely loved the high ball to his backhand.

You just know that abmk will still have Lendl, Wilander and Kuerten above him.
He's got it now.
Second most wins at RG, 7 finals overall. Multiple titles are all the big events, can't put Lendl over him now.
Rafa ran for the hills, in 2016. He knew what was coming after the 2015 experience and knowing Novak's 2016 form.I don’t have any problem in recognizing Novak’s clay achievements but let us not say Novak won during Rafa’s presence .
2016 and 2023 RG had 0 to do with Rafa
How many of those are equivalent of masters 1000 and above? Win percentage at those?Lendl has 30 clay titles I believe. Djokovic has 19. Djokovic has to win another French to be above Lendl on clay.
Could you elaborate? I still think that number of Novak RG finals and semifinals alongside number of masters makes him better than Lendl.I also know I started a thread a few days ago that Djokovic had a possible case for 3rd if he won, but I researched Lendl's career on clay some more since then, and I have to walk back that comment now. Lendl is definitely still above him for now. Djokovic has a good chance of maybe winning a 4th and some other clay titles and moving ahead, but not yet.
I'm telling you that 7 in 8 years is far more impressive than 7 in 10. Longevity is a function of the superior resources Federer had at his disposal compared to Pete, so that can't be read into too deeply. The grass win streak is indeed impressive, but so is being broken just 4 times in 7 finals on fast grass. You're telling me that losing a quarter final to Krajicek and failing to make the final is more impressive than Federer making 7 straight finals and losing 9-7 fifth in one of them, while winning the other six? Federer also has crazy longevity, 12 finals, nearly beat Djokodal back to back at near 38 years of age.
I understand the argument to who had the higher peak on grass, but you cannot have someone over Federer if that someone has less grass slams overall, less finals, less titles. Accomplished wise it is Federer.
They are when a player chooses not to follow the rules.Injuries are part of the game, deportations aren't.
This. Peak level is one thing...winning is something completely different.
InterestingHonestly I think you could have made a pretty strong case for him at 3 before 2021 now I don’t see how he’s not 3. No one has anywhere near his longevity and he had to face Nadal in nearly all his best years.
How many times Lendl played against Nadal? There's nothing official about it. He's still only top 4-5 in my eyes, Lendl is third.

I'm a Nole fan, but I consider Borg to be a greater clay player. Borg would have more RG titles if the then ITF boss Chatrier wasn't an ass and allowed the Swedish legend to play a limited tournament schedule. Borg would not have finished prematurely and would have won the RG editions in which Wilander or Lendl succeeded. Both Wilander and Kuerten have less clay titles than Novak. So they are out of the question. Lendl has more, but Novak have had much more RG success. He is 3rd best on clay, and if it wasnt for Rafa, he probably would have been above Borg.
Nadal was not best in clay post 2013 in all the tournaments. After 2017 he only dominated RG and started losing in masters very often. There djokovic stepped up after 2013.With his incredible win at RG, he leapfrogs Lendl, Wilander and Kuerten into the third spot.
Clay - Nadal, Borg, Djokovic,
Hard - Djokovic, Federer, Sampras
Grass - Federer, Sampras, Djokovic
Djokovic with 2 Monte Carlo, 3 Madrid, 6 Rome and 3 Roland Garros in the time that we saw the greatest single surface dominance of all time by Nadal carries immense weight.
