I remember there was some fuss about Kylie Minogue being a St Mirren fan a year or two ago. I also vaguely remember her performing at the closing ceremony for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. I also remember hearing one of her songs on the radio, thinking "this is crap" and turning it off.

I do actually know of Vanessa Amorosi.
She sung one of songs which were associated with the 2000 Sydney Olympics. I used to listen to the song on my MP3 player.

I didn't realise you were an Aussie until this thread.
I remember crossing swords previously with you about the subject of football (of the association variety), and just assumed that you were yet another generic septic.
My great-grandfather on the maternal side was born in Australia. I have quite a lot of close relatives from that part of the world, but they are mostly across the Tasman.

Just a bit of interest for you. Wannabe was their first song back in 1996. Spice Girls hysteria. Going to school, the main question was who is your favorite. I was all for ginger spice back then. Then they went on to take over the world. She was a lot more sporty then, might have been able to serve. But I doubt it. lol

I actually loved to play football as a kid. I was better at football than I was at tennis, and I'm obviously talking about real football not rugby which I never desired to play.
I just got aggravated because as a kid everyone called football soccer and rugby football, so when another kid came rampaging along saying "nah you're wrong it's football" I held a grudge towards the subject... deep inside.
I have relatives in the UK, mainly Ireland though. None that I've met but they still exist.
My favorite player should've been a huge clue though. I mean I trolled you for a while posting the Hewitt - Henman H2H. It's good that you appreciate a player like Henman though, not many people get interested in the second tier guys like him, Hewitt, Rafter, Ivanisevic, etc.

It was only in the last few years on the internet when I realised that the Spice Girls are/were an international phenomenom. I always assumed they were more of a British thing.
I also went to school in the 1990s, and Emma was my favourite at the time.
As I grow older, I have more of a soft spot for Geri.

Emma Bunton was the prettiest, in my personal opinion.
I think that their huge popularity was down to the ''girl-next-door'' vibe about them.
They are obviously five attractive women, but not stand-out ''beautiful'' or ''gorgeous''.
They - or similar women - all seemed potentially attainable, rather than ''out of your league''. At least, that was how it was for a hormonal British teen in the 90s.

j/k.Seriously, I understand what you're saying. None of them are any prettier than what you might see in average everyday life, though they are all attractive.
I think another major reason for their popularity was that they were the first major girl group that I can remember, and they were very different and pop oriented. "Boy bands" made it big in the 90's for the same reason.
