Djokovic Trailed Federer by 15 slams and Nadal by 8 slams in 2010

At the end of 2010 - Novak trailed Fed by 15 slams and Nadal by 8 slams!

Federer: 16
Nadal: 9
Djokovic:1

10.5 years later:

Federer: 20
Nadal: 20
Djokovic:20

In 10.5 years (from 2010-2021) , Novak won 19 slams and counting! This is unbelievable. Has there been any other player who has been so prolific?

At that point Fed reaching 20 seemed inevitable, and the question was more how far beyond 20 can he take it. But then things stalled at 17 for a long while and 20 became like a pipe dream. Sports man, sports...

but remember djokovic has only succeeded due to being in a weak era (2011-present). even though another player won 10+ slams in the same time frame and two others won at least 3. very weak era...embarrassing.
No one says 2011-present is the weak era. His 3 in 2011 and 3 in 2012-14 are unquestioned. As is his 1st one in 2008.

It's 2015 where the argument for weakness starts. Although that 2014-16 period looks strong as hell now compared to today.

How much has Novak won from 2010-2021 -- 19 slams and counting! Unbelievable.

At the beginning of 2010, after the AUS Open, it was Federer + 10 on Nadal, and + 15 on Djokovic
Yet they both levelled things up in spite of competing with each other, the whole time. And competing with Federer

giphy.webp

And things aren't settled yet

And then there happened to be no Next Gen to comepte against Djoker since 2015. Thats the entire story if you are going start this nonsense.
I agree. the success Djokovic has achieved is partly down to his being younger than his 2 main rivals. Age does matter, even a couple of years. The failure of younger players to forge a real challenge is rather mysterious. I do think the immense hype surrounding Federer, Nadal and Djokovic has contributed to a feeling of invincibility, but that can't be the whole reason. What happened to Them, for example? With both Shapovalov and Berretini at Wimbledon I felt there was an element of playing the reputation rather than the man. And at RG Tsitsipas appeared unaware that Djokovic played possum for a period of the match and allowed himself to be lulled into a losing position.
Also Djokovic has made himself the perfect player by turning himself into a kind of machine. There is no heart and no poetry in his game.

Not really. To start with, none of the next gen players you mentioned have a consistent FH/BH to trouble Djokdal who excels at baseline push. Then there is the mentally fickle minded aspect of the entire next gen. These flaws are so obvious you cannot miss it. It was and has been and will be a career inflation era, 2015 onward. Murray and Stan were also beneficiaries of that.

Yes, weak gen.
Novak beat
Murray 5 times
Nadal 4 times
Federer 4 times
to get those fake 20 slams

The GOAT deniers are pathetic !

who denies that Novak is among the best tennis players?
some people fairly observe that he lack ATG level competition from 3 generations and still counting of younger players, something that probably never happened in the past and of course this inflates his stats

but Nole isn't guilty, he can only play the opponent that shows up on the other side of the net

Back to the post #15 above, how different was the situation between 2003 an 2009?

2003 & 2004: Old, crippled Andre is the only ATG in the top 10
2005-2006: Rafa shows up and Andre is done
2007-2009: we have Rafa and RF battling and Novak and Murray "learning"

as far as I recall there were 'youngsters' that weren't patiently waiting for Pete and Andre to retire
folks like Kuerten, Ferrero, Hewitt, Safin, Roddick, Federer actively helped them to embrace the retirement decision

can you please type the entire list of youngsters that are pushing Novak into retirement?

Pete and Andre were totally different physical and mental condition from the big 3 today.
Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Zverev, Thiem (pre- 2020 USO), FAA, Berettini...are equally exciting bunch as Roddick, Baggy, Safin, Hewitt back then

perhaps to you they are "equally exciting bunch"

Roddick, Safin and Hewitt were competitors willing to do what it takes to become #1
can't see the same attitude in: Nishikori, Goffin, Dimitrov, Raonic, Thiem, Edmund, Medy, Berrettini, Garin, Khachanov, Norrie, A Zverev, Hurckaz, Coric, Paul, Rublev, Fritz, Shapovalov, Ruud, AdM, Ruusuvuori, Moutet

these are 3 generations of players after Nole.
please let me know which one of these players managed to get to #1 in ATP ranking at the age when Roddick, Safin and Hewitt did it

P.S.
as for Baggy, he is of Djokodal generation, so if you believe that Baggy is weak era, then you are calling Djokodal weak era ;)

He played Murray, Nadal, and Federer for the majority of his career.

Just because they aren't 20 years younger than him doesn't make them any less of a threat or elite competition. Like, what better competition could there possibly be than having to face Federer and Nadal (and Murray) between 2008-2015?

What are you talking about? The thread has nothing to do with the players facing each other. It's simply praising Nole for catching up with Fedal's record in a short period of time...something Federer did with Sampras' record in an even shorter period of time.

Definitely. And he most likely would have, maybe multiple times, were it not for Djokovic. But I can't remember, why was it that Federer almost lost to Monfils and then lost to Cilic in 2014? Kei was so nervous and shell shocked in that final, that even a sub standard Federer would take him out.

There is a heavy push by not just nole fans but also the atp as it sees novak as the last big star. It ideally wants Nadal to be back considering Fed's retirement is getting closer. But after the big 3 are done, you'll see how men's tennis will be. nole fans have to big him up and I don't see any problem with that but their denial of the past 5 years as a weak era is just laughable. Bring back Roddick, Hewitt and Baggy lol

I see it quite the opposite. Call this a weak era so that Federer still has any relevance in all that…
In reality, the existence of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka, short lived Delpo era is as strong as any other era before and only one of the big 3 had to deal with all of them from Slam #0 to slam #20 (or maybe 19)

Talking nothing away from what Djokovic has accomplished since 2011, I think we should recognize Fed's amazing career turnaround when he had zero slams heading into Wim 2003. During Fed's run, he was able to turnaround his H2H with several players he had strugged with previously, including Agassi, Henman, Hewitt, and Nalbandian.

What about the time that "one" hadn't won a slam or the period before he won the second one. As already mentioned here, Baggy was Djokovic's era. So are you saying that Djokovic was part of the weak era which most of the nadalovic fans claim. Wawa and Murray didn't trouble Fedal too much only Djoker. You just witnessed three mugsketeers that competed in the slams this year. You're clearly deluded. Keep watching for the next 5 or so years. Things will be much more clearer

how do you call a period of time when the biggest threat to a 33-35 years old tennis player comes from a player that is 6 years older?
please allow me to put into context as well, that 3 generations and still counting of younger talents coming after this mighty 33-35 years old tennis player failed to produce at least 1 ATG level player

and just to cement this, do you think Fed had any business at winning 3 GS titles and getting to #1 in ranking during 2017-2018?
