That's a good question. No question that overall Djoker is the better claycourter by far, but at RG it's probably Soderling.

It's strange Soderling being so great at RG. So, this means we don't use only slam results when saying how good somebody is.

This poll is ********. 1F + 4 SF + 2QF > 2F + 1QF. Had soderling won one of the finals, it would have been Soderling.

But Soderling did manage to beat Nadal at RG. The only one. This is important.
He also beat the defending champion Federer. When Fed was nr.1.

So it's not that clear cut as you make it out to be.

Soderling beat Nadal when he was suffering from injuries (thus why Rafa closed down the rest of his season in 2009 until the USO). We saw what Soderling did vs. Rafa when Rafa was healthy the following year.

Obviously Nole is SUPERIOR in every way on clay. Soderling was just a flash in the pan overrated BUM still living on his prior fame from beating an injured Rafa at the French

Ok. Then Soderling is better RG player. I hope that Djokovic shuts mouth of all critics next year and gives rest to all these arguments.
I also hope that Stakhovsky beats Murray next time at W so that you can come up with arguments like Stakhovsky is one of the best W players.

I didn't say superior on clay. On clay Nole is better, we know that. It's who is better at RG.

If Stakhovsky beat prime Nadal and Fed at W and made 2 finals, I would say he is a better W player than guys not winning W:).

But yeah, I hope Nole wins RG too. I wanted him to win so badly. He was close, up a break in the 5th.

That match really made a mental damage to him. I hope he recovers. He probably will. Tough losses is what make champions.

To be fair to Soderling, he backed up his result in beating Nadal at RG, by reaching the final the next year. He gave Nadal the chance to avenge that defeat.

Soderling was obviously an excellent clay player, regardless of Nadal being injured. 1 RG final can be regarded as a fluke. 2 consecutive means you know what you are doing.

The big mystery is why Soderling is pretty much out of the game. I think he'd be a consistent threat at RG if he was still active. Though he'd never beat a fit Nadal.

Has anyone ever seen a player bludgeon Rafa and Roger the way Soderling did? No.

Peak Robin would annihilate Djokovic in straights at RG.

Djokovic is the best here, in my opinion. Although Soderling has pulled one of the greatest upsets in RG history, Djokovic unfortunately had to face Nadal lots of times at this tournament. He would definitely have one title at this moment had not been Nadal. The same could not be said about Soderling, since he would always be nervous on a final.

Both are very tough opponents at RG. I'd give the nod to Soderling but Novak isn't far behind him at all.

Overall, Novak is the better clay player though.

Something to recall when ranking players, is that the highest level of play is not the only criterion. The ability to play close to it more than once or twice is important as well. In this regard, Djokovic is better than Soderling at RG because he has been far more consistent. He will probably win the things one day or at least reach another final, closing the discussion.

I think it's a bit ridiculous to consider Soderling a better RG player than Djokovic if Djokovic can flip this ranking in only one more tournament.

Woah woah woah. Nadal shut down for 2 months until the Rogers Cup. Two whole months. Nadal went out and played to the bitter end in that much. Soderling had found his range and was smacking the hell out of the goddamn ball. Give Soderling his damn credit. Sorry can't buy the "rafa" injury crap, everytime he has a bad loss the "injury" and not being "fit" comes up. See Rosol and Darcis wimbledon losses.

That being said to me it's a very close tie, but I'm going to eventually edge Djokovic. It's unfortunate Robin only got three years of his best at France but in those three years he lost to Fed once and Nadal twice and beat each of them once. He's the only man to beat Nadal at France and I think that deserves some note. Besides he proved he was not a flash in the pan when he made two french open finals back to back. He was a solid top 10 player, people really need to stop hating so much.

In this case I'd have to vote for Djo...

...oderling. Robin Soderling for sure. That's who I voted for.

Sorry Monsieur, but what you just did there is trolling and is not nice at all. Just speaks bad about you. Thank you.

Anyway, this thread and all those people voting for Soderling are simply ridiculous.

Nothing else to say here.
