Djokovic has reached 2 finals, 4 semi-finals and 1 quarter-final at RG(80%W-L).

Soderling has reached 2 finals and 1 quarter-final(70% W-L).

Djokovic has also won 5 Masters 1000 on clay as well as 4 finals.

Soderling has never reached the semi-finals of a clay Masters 1000, let alone a final.

So who do you think is the greater clay court player?

Pretty obviously, Djokovic. 2 RG finals, 4 semis and a quarter plus 5 clay Masters titles clearly far outstrips Soderling's 2 RG finals, 1 quarter and no clay Masters titles.

The only thing Soderling has done on clay that Djokovic yet hasn't is to beat Nadal at RG!

It would be a legit thread if their accomplishments on clay were pretty close, but it's not, as you write it yourself.

I think you are a good poster all in all, but this thread was not good.

And here I was thinking that IPTL tennis would delay the start of the "off" season threads.

Thank D.Nalby12 for this thread:

Obviously this puts me in the same clay tier as Sampras, Djokovic, McEnroe, Connors, and everyone else who also has 0 RG titles.

Oh ok i get it, so now we have to start a new thread everytime a troll speaks, busy aren't we
;)

Soderling, obviously, as the votes clearly show...he did beat the king of clay

Not serious.

Soderling of course. He wouldn't double fault on championship point to Nadal.

Soderling is a very underrated clay player...he was a beauty to watch on court (don't remember watching any of his matches tbh).

I think if I asked who was the greater clay court player out of Djokovic and Giraldo, you'd still vote for Giraldo!

Right, because beating Nadal at the FO is the only metric to assess clay court greatness. If we took away the Nadal match, would anyone even remember this guy's name?

By the way, Soderling also lost the RG championship points he played.

He has two clay titles (both ATP 250 - Swedish Open), and a career 86-52 (0.623) record on clay. I'd say he's very, very overrated.

I'd like to change my vote to Soderling after seeing these two brave comrades break free from the chains of the popular (and ignorant) opinion to endorse the actual truth.

Djokovic but Soderling had the potential to be great on clay. He is the only guy to beat rafa at roland garros. He made the final the next year. Probably Soderling is the worst case of a player getting to the top only to be crippled by injury/sickness.

How can you vote for Soderling just because he had the potential to be greater? We can only go off what's actually happened.

Who voted for Soderling? You? I actually didn't vote in the poll. In my comment I said Djokovic, but pointed out that Soderling may have done very well on clay if not for his sickness.

Yes after winning 3 games in first and reciving bagel in 2nd set he was close to end Novaks streak in 2011:oops:
OP it seems that your new maxima is if you can't beat the trolls- join them.

That was actually Murrray who almost ended the streak. My bad.

Soderling has a better peak on clay definitely.

Djokovic better overall IMO.

This thread made me really angry.

Why do some Novak fans do this and try really hard to make Novak lesser player than he is.

Comparing Novak to Soderling? Really? This is a disgrace and an outrage indeed.

Novak is the all time tennis great player and should be compared to his peers and equals like Fed, Nadal, Sampras, Agassi, Laver, Lendl, Connors, Borg, ...

Not to mugs like Soderling, Roddick, Safin, Nalbandian, Ferrer or similar.

I can not believe this thread. I am genuinely ****ed and mad.

Obviously, pretty much everyone will say Djokovic. The guy in question, who says Soderling is trolling or just plain dumb. No need for a thread like this though......

OP, really? Was this thread really required.

Djokovic will be second or third on this surface in his era, by the time he hangs up the racquet.

Sure, Nole is more consistent, but Soderling has bigger wins.

In the end at the biggest stages, they both only have 2 finals, but Soderling went trough prime Fed and Rafa to get there.

So, I would say they are equally great, since nobody won the title. If you don't win the title, consistency doesn't matter that much.
