Last week, Novak Djokovic retired with a back injury in the final of Davis Cup. Although he told the press that his injury was not serious, according to many media abroad, the world No.1 would have to miss China Open because of his muscle lacerations in the back forced him to rest as long as four weeks. It disappointed Chinese fans very much who had been keenly waiting for the presence of the world No.1 in China. The secretary of the Competition Players Department, Chen Zhen, when interviewed by the press, said she had talked to Novak Djokovic’s agent and confirmed the muscle injury would not forbid Novak Djokovic from coming to Beijing. He would compete in China Open as planned, aiming at a third successive championship。

On Tuesday, a piece of writing on Weibo going “the world No.1 of ATP Novak Djokovic had to rest for at least four weeks because of muscle lacerations in the ribs” stirred anxiety among Chinese fans. 2011China Open is going to swing off the very week and the main draws of ATP and WTA will play next week. So it seems that Novak Djokovic’s tour of China is impossible. Chinese fans are so disappointed by his injury as well as the fact that they are not able to meet their tennis idol。

Soon Novak Djokovic’s injury was confirmed, but it was not such serious as his fans thought. “we have not been officially informed of his retirement in China Open. We got in touch with Novak Djokovic’s agent immediately after the news to confirm the situation。” Chen Zhen said when interviewed by the press, “ they replied that Novak Djokovic did not consider retirement and would came for China Open as planned soon after!”

Novak Djokovic’s uncle, Gelan, was also connected by China Open immediately. He said that Chinese fans should set their mind at ease because Novak would surely come to his fans in China. “Novak indeed got injured and in the following period of time he would have to take a good rest. However, it is no need for the fans to worry, for the injury is minor and he will certainly show up on the courts of China Open

Nah, that's a load of BS! The guy is perfectly fine. He's crapping all over his asian fans.

Fed would never turn his back on his fans without a good excuse clearly he is totally burnt out, he had to travel all the way to Australia to play a tough davis cup tie playing three hard matches in a row straight after the USO, at 30 years old that is going to take its toll, at least he managed to complete all those 3 matches whereas Djokovic pulled out again after a set and a half in a crucial rubber against Argentina letting down his entire country.

I knew he wasn't injured when he put on that Oscar winning performance at DC. He's such a Faker, and has now robbed 2 players of a legitimate victory over him this year in the same fashion. He deserves to have his a** handed to him in Shanghai, but I know that won't happen. Just give him the trophy already since his near death experience turned out to be just another act. Pathetic behavior from him, without question.

Djokovic's retirements haven't robbed anyone, only himself. Murray's and Del Potro's victories are perfectly legitimate as I keep trying to explain to you!

He robs his fans as well and presents a poor example to others everytime he retires, creates a bad image, he is number 1 in the world and has to start acting like one and setting a good example, even if there injured there is always a chance even if he can't move, anything could happen, the other guy could roll there ankle or just start missing everything, there's always a possibility.

very true although federes move could be beneficial in that theres no point in going to shanghai this year he will finish number 3 anyways and next year itll give him a boost at this time since he will have no points to defend.

Yes they have. I have already seen several *********s on other forums talking about putting asterisks on those two losses because poor Cvac was practically near death. He DID rob Delpo and Murray of 2 legit victories over him by acting as though he was dying. It's pathetic, ego driven behavior from him and he should be embarrassed.

Djokovic cleaned both their clocks in the Slams this year. They should be thankful Djoker wasn't healthy or it would've been more of the same.

I suspect this is a tactical move from the tourney to sell more tickets. I wouldn't be surprised if Djoko still skipped it in the end. He may still do the trip but that doesn't mean he will play.

I understand your point. All I am saying is that a retirement does not affect the legitimacy of his opponent's win. The opponent cannot be penalised in any way by Djokovic's or any other player's decision to retire before the match has run its proper course.

The *********s can do whatever they like. As I've said elsewhere, if they want to play that game then they will have to start putting asterisks or whatever they choose against all those matches Djokovic has 'won' when HIS opponents retired!

Suppose Andy Murray had retired when two sets and a break down in the AO final. Would that have affected the legitimacy of Djokovic's win? Of course not.

Players who retire before a match has run its proper course, whether justified or not, only rob themselves and the tennis fans. The opponent's victory is just as legitimate as if he had converted a match point.

I thought he pulled out because of his back.

I also thought there was something of substance being discussed in the thread, though.
