Djokovic will win 8-9 Australian Open titles by end of career?

He has won five out of six since 2011 and it does not really seem to be a struggle for him to actually win it apart from the odd match here and there. He is 6-0 in finals and it looks like he will end his career with a high tally at this particular major. Djokovic could end up 8-0 and Nadal 10-0. Who can completely break his dominance and prevent him from winning two more majors at the AO apart from Stan?

Novak W/L against main rivals -

Nadal - 1-0
Federer - 3-1
Murray - 4-0
Stan - 2-1

Total W/L = 10-2 since 2007

Most majors undefeated in finals -

1) Nadal - 9-0 at FO
2) Sampras - 7-0 at WIMB
3) Bjorg - 6-0 at FO
4) Djokovic - 6-0 at AO
5) Federer - 7-3 at WIMB

I actually have a feeling most of his slams in future years wont come at the Australian Open. I just don't think that will be his main focus in the coming years. He is already the hands down GOAT here (I would be shocked if anyone even tries to challenge this now) and has absolutely nothing to prove there. He has more incentive at Roland Garros and the U.S Open to improve his records there, and while he has arguably already overachieved there he is extremely passionate about Wimbledon and I think is fueled by continually proving people wrong there. I am sure he will win atleast 1 more Australian Open in his career, he could win 2 more for 8. I don't think he will win 9 like some people think though. Then again if he is really motivated to go for the slam record, his attitude might be the Australian is my best place to win slams. I don't know.

I think the competition at the Aussie will be more than other slams in the coming years though. I see Stan winning there again at some point, and I still have a feeling Murray will get it done there at some point after so many finals. Plus there is 1 less Australian Open in his future (probably) as that is the slam that has already taken place this year.

Stan will be 31 and 32 at the next two Australian Opens.....do you trolls just add a year or two every time you lamely try to discredit Djokovic?

Quite possible. I don't see anyone from the old generation stopped him. If anything either the current generation picks up the slack or his level drops. But I can see him winning 2 more easily if he can stay relatively healthy.

Not sure about that, 7 is a possibility given the record he has there but I'm sure a few Aussies will have something to say next year, that's when I expect the likes of Kyrgios, Kokkinakis etc to really start stepping it up. In fact we haven't seen Novak play Kyrgios yet and I'd think that would be a tough match, both wouldn't be accustomed to each other. Would prefer a FO and another USO personally, have that spread.

In terms of domination at one slam, Nadal, hands down has the best record and will probably will have the best record. ​

He leads Murray 5-0 actually. He's beaten him in 4 finals(2011, 2013, 2015, 2016) and one semi (2012).

For the ladies, I guess you should give it to Margaret Smith Court, but for many years, the top players in the world didn't even bother going "down under" so she picked up an easy 11 titles with a huge psychological edge over Evonne Goolagong!

US Open had several dominant figures with McEnroe, Connors winning on 3 surfaces, and Lendl getting to 8 straight finals, but again Roger Federer dominated with 5 straight titles! This is why he's the GOAT with 1 FO & 4 AO's!

I guess you have to rename the trophy to Chris Evert due to her winning 6 titles on 2 surfaces: 3 on clay and 3 on HC!"

It's been a year, has anything changed except Nole has 6 titles instead of just 5? ;-)

Who would have thought Denis Istomin who is coached by his mother can beat Novak in AO???

There was something wrong with Novak's groundstrokes and serves. Shoulder could be affecting his serve or wrist affecting his backhand.

But I think the main problem with Novak here is with his life and his mindset. He has no motivation. He just wants to enjoy. He is not ambitious anymore.

I think he will stay on 6 now unfortunately, he's even hinting at retirement after this year to focus on his family. He won all the big tournaments and if his heart not in it anymore then can't blame him if he want to step aside.

That's tragic. That will be the end of tennis as we know it.
Imagine how awful it will be if there is no one to stop Fedr and Nadal from winning more slams :( :eek:

I would like to think he still can, but needs to refind his motivation fast.
Not impossible to win a couple more in his 30s, on his best surface and at his best slam.
Equaling 7 for Sampras/Federer at Wimbledon and then getting to 8 would be an awesome legacy, if he can do it.

If and I know it's an IF but if Federer won this year you'd have a challenge.

The separation would be extra W over F but Rogers with more Semifinal exits 7>0.
