Djokovic x Nadal - prize money

I was just browsing the ATP season ending results. How is it possible that Djokovic overtook Nadal in carrer prize money?
Djokovic: 72,403,908 USD
Nadal: 71,279,236 USD

I mean, how? Nadal has 64 titles, 14 of them are grand slams, Djokovic has 48 titles, and only 7 of them are grand slams. Nadal even won more masters series tournaments. I mean, is this possible because the prize money is increasing and djokovic has been relatively more succesful as of late? Or did he play in so many GS finals?

Because Djokovic is more consistent in reaching QFs or better in most all tournaments, BUT ends up losing the matches that count. In comparison, Nadal has one of the best (or maybe THE best?) records in winning the matches that count, i.e QF/SF/F. Nadal just loses to so many journeymen in early rounds, taking a lot away from his prize money.

its called inflation, get use to it kiddo.

The 2-3% inflation can't explain this. Try again.

Prize money increases at higher rate than inflation though, also big tournament attendance is breaking records all the time.
That all is the true confirmation that tennis is in a pretty good shape and flourishing while dominated by Djokovic in the last 4 years.

i.e. all the whining here about tennis demise due to imaginary "slow surfaces" and "boring tennis decline" has been greatly exaggerated.

Prize money increase at a very fast pace. Federer won 900'000 pounds for Wimbledon in 2003, Djokovic 1'700'000 in 2014.

Sampras got 550'000.- in 1994.

Nadal won 1'000'000$ for RG in 2005, 1'600'000$ for the same tournaments in 2014.

Masters 1000 have changed a lot too. Nadal got 400'000 for winning Rome in 2005, he got 700'000 for winning Madrid in 2014.

Prize money has been increasing every darn year. The future Slam champions would surpass even Federer's career prize money by winning mere 6-7 Slams.

What's important is that Nadal has double the Slam titles as Djokovic. :) That is what matters. A few million here and there would hardly have any influence in their lives.

I disagree that people making millions is any reliable indication of how healthy an economic system is.

Lol that is not inflation, as clearly explained in my post.

People are so sloppy here, don't even read posts they reply to.

Try again indeed.

In economics, inflation is a sustained increase in the general price level of goods and services in an economy over a period of time.

If it's higher then inflation then it's even worse.

And you think that the increase of prize money happened at the same pace of the increase of the general price of goods and services?

If it was solely due to the inflation, taking an arbitrary reference point of Wimbledon 2003 (prize money 575'000 US$), the prize money of Wimbledon 2014 should be 743'800 US$. (http://www.usinflationcalculator.com)

That's 1'000'000 US$ missing.

It's always increasing, even if it's 2-3% of the prize money every year. Even if the prize money has increased by say 10%, inflation over a period of a decade would have increased the prize money drastically. It is quite simple really, not that it matters.

I'm not a Nadal fan, but it is very funny seeing Nole fans trying to get a one up over Nadal over how much he's worth. Talk about the lowest of the low.

Djokovic won more than a million more dollars for his second Wimbledon title than Fed did for his ten years earlier.
