Djokovic's uncle says Nole missing tournaments in 2022 has extended his career by a few years

"This year was not easy for Novak, but he keeps pressing forward. I am sure that after everything he endured, he will come out stronger. Novak is his own person. He knows who he is. Novak knows what he wants. The ordeal he went through this year in Australia only extended his career. Instead of maybe retiring from tennis in three or four years, his career has been extended for five, or six years. He is resting his body."

We all know he will. He will push until he surpasses Nadal and makes sure Spaniard retires. He is so crazy about records stuff. Even if he isn’t healthy he will push.

The most interesting thing in the article is the Djokovic wine. Will he be sending a couple of consolation bottles to Fed on his birthday?

Novak is the worthy slam leader. Each of the big 3 are near equals but Novak has better achievements in literally almost any other metric. He deserves to have this one too.

That's why it's amusing to see egg fans state that Djokovic's vaccination refusal proves he doesn't care as much about the records. He was happy to skip those slams because he 100% believes he will get the slam record anyway when all is said and done. And anyways he didn't willingly skip Australia, he was never able to make an informed decision about it because he thought his "exemption permission" would fly.

I'm sure he does care a lot about the record especially since he is so close...the question was does Rafa care as much? Rafa claims he is not as obsessed but considering him playing with numb foot, wife in hospital while he's in NY...shows that Rafa cares too.

Yes, it is all about avoid injuries. If he takes care of his body, he will be competing as a legit contender for slam titles until he is 40.
If anyone knows how to take care of his body that is the Earth's Mightiest Warrior, alright. I was reading about Tom Brady and his philosophy of life, his food, training, recovery regimes and I think they're very similar with Djokovic. Djokovic even more extreme with some of his beliefs. Yes some of those beliefs are weird for the most of the common folks out there, for sure, but if you want to be successful in sports deep in the 30s and early 40s sometimes you have to be little bit weird, tbh. ;)

What's wrong with playing with a numb foot for one tournament, and why are you pretending you know anything about his wife lol? Rafa is trying to be a tennis player, the last few years he has been playing just 8-10 tournaments per year, you think that's too many? :-D

I don't think it really works like that at this age. If you miss time in your 20s, sure, but in your 30s? When the body gets old, it gets old. You get hurt more easily, you take longer to recover. If anything, as his return this year showed, it can be harder on you to get back into the groove of things when you miss time.

No way he beats alcaraz, i just dont see it, that said, i do believe he can beat most players until 40, but not all of them

I agree that Djokovic will be a top contender until at least age 40, but generally because he is that fit. That missing tournaments in 2022 extend his career is pure fantasy, if not for a hypothetical career-ending injury in exactly one of those tournaments he missed.

Only in an American sport where a typical game has 11 minutes of action and the distance covered per game from a player is about 1.2 miles. Avoiding injuries should be a good enough advice.

His physicality took a hit this year from last year.

What happened in 2022 was anything but good for him. Salvaged the season with 2 big titles and perhaps another one at the YEC, but it's still a disaster that he couldn't play 6 big tournaments.

Dude, the guy is 45. And he is still one of the best in the whole league. He won the SB as a 43 y/o FGS. Yep is a different sport altogether, yep maybe he doesn't need much stamina to perform at his position, but he certainly needs speed, explosiveness, hand-eye coordination. And not to mention that he gets beat up every single game, and his recovery is top notch, and still physically is in top form. What the guy is doing deep into his 40s is just mind blowing. ;)

And with Mr. Stomach Tear all done but for the send off party, a few more GS titles seem inevitable (unless of course some woke country or tournament decides to throw more egg on their own face).

lmao. It is sooooooo much tougher to stay on an NFL field than a tennis court.

Brady is remarkable but he certainly does not have speed or explosiveness at this point. He is an excellent decision maker, game manager, etc. But his deep ball is nowhere near what it was and his legs are non existent.
