I don't know if this is New Wave, Post Punk, Postmodern, or what have you.

But these guys were hugely influential in later bands, in particular Sonic Youth. Listen to this song. I mean, come on!

Vs babolat...nice ones.
I toatelly Oubliéd about squeeze. XTC learned a lot from their sound.

The Jam's Going Underground has one of my favorite lines, "the public gets what the public wants".

Going underground is as relevant today as it was back then. Sadly.

So many memories! I was out of work during Summer 1980 when "Argybargy" was huge...played that album into square ruts AND took a "job" with a friend's cover band that played any and all of that track list at every gig. Plus, Squeeze toured that summer and we all went as a group to see them at a beach club venue on Long Island South Shore! Best summer EVER!!!!

Some interesting music out of England at that time, my preference was more for groups that didnt make it commercially. The Ruts, the Slits, The Pop Group, The Au Pairs, Chameleons, Gang of Four, Magazine all jump to mind.

My Script of the Bridge picture disc... saw them at the 930 Club in '84 and a few times after. Great band. One of my favorite records of all time.

One of their former drummers past away a few days ago. I was listening to them on youtube and on the side I saw a video titled "tribute to john lever."

It is a very good album though. There are actually a few fans of The Chameleons on here too! Think I was talking to some chap from Brazil about them briefly. I posted Caution from Strange Times somewhere on this page. I think it's like 4 of the first 5 tracks on Strange Times I really like, but overall I might prefer Script of the Bridge. Not sure. Mad Jack, Caution, Soul in Isolation, and Swamp Thing make for an incredible opening imo. Think it's just the 3rd track that I don't like.

I had no idea. Very sad - major bummer.

Lots of those bands i liked a bit but they were gateway drug bands. They lead to the Smiths and the Cure and next thing you know i was deep into 80s goth. Still am.

The highlight of my music "career" - such as it was(n't) - was playing bass in this band called Fudge in the early-90s and opening for the Buzzcocks for about a month. I think I walked away with $300 at the end of the tour.

Members of Echo and the Bunnymen briefly reformed as Electrafixion. One of my stranger nights was being invited to join their wives, girlfriends, and others at a table for a performance in the mid-1990s at the Viper Room. I was packed-in with a bunch of hot women at a table, with one of the girlfriends sitting on my lap. I was very drunk that night and don't remember much.

Separated at birth? (My Eurail pass from... 1993 I believe)
