Do you play tennis with your spouse/SO?

Just curious how many people here have an interest in tennis and their spouse or SO does not. Mine could care less, golf is his only interest.

upon starting back after many years, hit with the somewhat athletic (was so in youth) gf. injuries, etc have sidelined her somewhat so not much court time for her. for me, play mostly with younger good players or give an occasional free lesson to the neighborhood kids.

I don't know about anyone else but I would not date another tennis player.

Just think about it... if we both play tennis and both love tennis, we'd be competitive (whether we like it or not). Plus there will always be a better player, either him or me. I wouldn't like it if I l lose to him and he certainly wouldn't like it if he lose to me.

If we pair up to play mixed doubles? Well if he start trying to give me "advice" or "tips" after each point like some of these older men I get the "pleasure" of getting paired up with during tennis doubles social, I'll probably just drop my racquet, walk right over there, and start choking him.

Well it's just how I feel. End of rant.

LOL! I'm pretty sure you don't have to be married to want to do this to your mixed partner! ;)

Also, tennis really is a difficult sport. Don't take a date out to play tennis if he/she is just a "casual" player. Any 3.0+ player can easily double bagel a noob.

I mean you can just casually hit with your date.. but you'll obviously be the better player. You can play a few games and let your date win a few point, but If you're competitive like me you just cannot help throwing in a few winners. I mean they'll definitely try to act like they're enjoying the sport, but it'll just get awkward, very, very awkward... (very true especially if you're a woman!)

Anyways I would prefer that my date/bf would be into some sports other than tennis, so we'll each have our own thing.

My parents played in a mix dubs league for a little. My dad hit my mom in the head with a serve. Instead of checking if she was ok he yelled at her for getting in the way of a good serve. She was dazed and had no idea where she was. They dont play together anymore.

my wife and I play together and have the bit of heated exchange every once in a blue moon. She is also the best doubles partner I have.

In both high school and college, I dated nearly all tennis players. Never played mixed doubles with any, but we practiced together a lot. I really don't know why I even went out with dh, but once I did, that was it.

But it would be nice to have a ready made tennis buddy. It's so hard for me to find anyone to play with now.

Nearly every day. We mostly rally, as I'm a decent player, and she first picked up a racquet a few years after we started dating. It's good fun though, and she has improved quite quickly.

Yep, we've played mixed together for 5 years or so...the first year was rough but we figured it out and stopped treating each other like a spouse on the court. I'm the stronger player so if it's just the two of us, she tells me what she wants to work on and I focus on footwork, prep and consistency.

...and yes, we did go out and hit together for a date.

I still think it's a rare instance where it works for most couples but we're both glad we fought through the rough patch and long silent car drives home ;-)
