better late then never

just to give my (modest) opinion. I used all sorts of dampeners, I tried the head smartsorbs, the head logo, the techfiber clips, the rubberband (the staples ones) the etc... and then i got back to not using any...and...the vibration, or "ping noise" (no doubt in my mind) or whatever caused me to be wearing a elbow stress relieve elastic band (that´s a fact)...yup...dont know if your all right or wrong..but for me is back to dampeners just in case (the facts dont lie dont care what anybody says) and a "decathlon" (dont know if you have it in the states but is a big franchise in EU) smile dampener is in my strings (2.95 Euros for 2)!

Use it or not (for cosmetic reasons)..that´s not the question!

PS: i use a head flx radical mp.
Ps2: I´v been playing from 22 years .. only 6 moths ago I stopped using dampeners (20 y ago we used pieces of rubber that we used to cut our selfs). Just another fact!

I use the Babolat Cosmic Damp on my Babolat APDC with Lux Timo and Syn Gut. Feels and sounds great:

i do not use a vibration dampener.

reasons:

1)my strings tend to make a dull 'thock' sound with one
2)lose power with one
3)lose feel with one

thus i can't begin to see why i would use one. i do have two in my racquet bag along with several elastic bands though in case i am tempted to try blame my poor play on my lack of a vibration dampener - putting it on makes my game worse tho :D

I use vibration dampeners just because the feel and sound are better, at least for me. Playability-wise, no difference whatsoever; I sometimes play without one, case I only got one left, and when I break strings sometimes I forget to take it and put it on the new stick; It just feels kinda weird at first, but then I dont even notice... At least to me, it doesnt affect my tennis

I like the pop sound even though I don't use the dampeners, I am more aware of whether or not I am hitting the sweetspot without dampener. Just feel more connected to the racquet.

I use the smiley dampeners. they get rid of a bit of viration and keep most of the feel.

actually it depends on the racket. i´ve used vibration dampers since switching from wood to graphite, but recently started playing without one
when hitting with my PK Redondo. i feel i don´t need one with that racket, also older PK models like Silver Ace.
They sound good without vibras, unlike all the wilsons and heads i´ve played.

I use a vibration dampener but getting tired of losing it after a restring and they cost a lot money. I used rubber bands but always broke or fell of after a few hits but just figured out a new way to tie which i saw in another thread so going to try tomorrow and hope it works =)

rubber band tied a bit differently

i tie it on the normal way, but instead of leaving the loops, i tuck the loops in on the backside so theyre not sticking out, i dont like how that looks
when its tucked in it looks like a solid mass of rubber,

i used to use no dampener because i liked the extra feel, but i started using a lighter racket and it began to hurt my wrist, the lighter racket and the switch when i went from graphite shafted golf clubs that were perimeter weighted to forged steel shafted clubs

side note, i think the physics thing (a 2g dampener on a 300g racket striking a 60g ball) needs a citation, because i can definately feel a difference when i use a rubber band.

i just use a simple rubberband...with no vibration dampener..theres to much vibration...with a rubberband you get vib dampening and feel.thats why i use one.

I use dampeners just to get rid of the pingy noise.. which really disturbs me when I play... I wouldn't say there's much of a kill in the feel of the racquet though.

I've tried nearly all the damps that the current market has to offer (buying/testing damps is kindof an obsession of mine). I've concluded that the Wilson Smiley Face is the BEST. It dampens and gives you a "thock" sound, yet you still retain A LOT of feel. Everything else is either ineffective or kills 100% of the feel.

I'm currently testing the Yonex Stopper 5, which feels exactly the same. Its just a matter of looks now...

I like the Wilson :O face, hehe.

Donnay Vibrazorb... mutes vibration in the stringbed more than anything else I've tried. Feel is over-rated. I like my racquet to feel crisp and solid, and I hate the poinging sound racquets make when they have no dampening. Of course, I am dreading the day (coming soon) when I wear through my last Vibrazorb, since they are now impossible to find.

I use one ever since I bought my aero pro drive racket, because I was constantly hitting it out without the dampener. Now that I'm used to it I might try taking the dampener off to hit at full power again. Hopefully it won't start going out again :)

Tecnifibre Vibra Clip - small enough to cut out just enough vibration and the annoying ping while leaving feel intact.

I use the wilson "fun" damps. Currently using the Hope one and Ace of Spades one. Helps cut down on the vibration, haha. Makes it more comfortable.

i voted for all 3 cause it just depends. some strings vibrate more than others and i like to get rid of that feeling. i use anything really from vibe damp to rubberband.

Dampeners take away some power and gives a more consistent response for me, though yeah you lose a decent amount of feel.

When I got my kfactor six one 95 last week, I added the tourna grip "o" damper. I definitely lost some power and feel. Then I replaced with a rubberband and the power and feel improved. Yesterday I decided to do without a damper all together. Definitely gonna stay damperless from this point on.

Same here, actually. I use the Ace of Spades one on the racket in my sig and then I have the Dice one that I use on my K 6.1 95.

Where is the scientific proof that a damper would help or have any positive influence on your game play?!?!

...theres no 'scientific proof' that i prefer a headlight stick over a HH one,.............Yet i do,....because something hasn't undergone 'The Scientific Method' and been the subject of formal experimentation and study,.......does not mean it cannot be a fact,....

bad analogy. You can not do without a racket but you can do without a damper.

I don't use one, my racquet is stiff and dampened enough as it is, I tried having one on the first day I played with it, and couldn't feel the ball at all, it made my forehand so bad. Ever since then, my racquet's gone commando.
