Don’t completely discount the possibility Djoker playing Winston-Salem

… so he can catch Fed’s total number of titles.

Seriously, I think there may be a chance he will actually play the week before USO because he does need matches for this hard court slam.

Just examine the 3 weeks before first 3 slams of this year - he actually played all 3 weeks (ATP Cup, Belgrade II, Dub in Nadal’s backyard).

Winston-Salem ends on Saturday so he could get 3-4 matches in and be done on Friday (no later than Saturday). Then his 1st match in USO on Tuesday?

Yes he needs rest at the moment. But there are two full weeks between now and his possible 1st match in Winston-Salem. I say there is a possibility of it, though not a great possibility.

He has made weird choices in the recent past like Eastboune, Mallorca and Belgrade 2 before majors

Would not be surprised

LOL have you ever been to Winston Salem? absolutely no chance. And I like the tourney. For those who don’t know it’s held on college campus at Wake Forest University.

other thing is Djokovic would be much better off at the practice courts in NY getting used to the bounce and hitting with top players, not playing 250-level mugs in North Carolina.

Not a chance. Plus you have him losing there? That would be disastrous.
Also don’t forget how he conveniently lost to Sonego last Fall after winning a coupe of matches in that Europe 500 tournament.

The points from that 2 wins before Sonego largely ensured his 2020 YE#1 status. Then he just kind of lost drive and determination against the loud Italian. I saw that match on TV, Djokovic didn’t tank but he certainly played somewhat unfocused. Mission accomplished, that’s why.

Don’t be silly. I visited Wake Forest more than once.

If he plays, it will be to get some matches in. He is not going to jeopardize CYGS by chasing the title record. There is plenty of time left to break the titles record.

What is the latest word on Djoker's "multiple injuries"?

Then you would know it’s no place for a man going for a CYGS. You play it if you’re young and up and coming (Medvedev and RBA are former winners before they got big) or if you’re coming off injury/long lay-off. But a Big 3 player is never going to play Winston Salem imo.

That would be a decent place to get 3 matches in against players ranking 30-60 before US Open, if he feels he does need some match play.

Nowadays most players are comfortable playing on hard which means there is a slightly higher probability he gets upset in early rounds if not match-tough.

Djokovic doesn't need match practice. He had all practice he needed beating Berrettini Nadal Tsitsipas Shapovalov.

There's literally .000001% chance he'll ever play there even if offered a 40 million dollar appearance fee. And he's proven time and time again he needs no tune ups to win Wimbledon. Three times before winning Wimbledon he just played Boodles, which is a hit and a giggle. He's also won AO many times playing just a team exo and no ATP event.

Djokovic played Belgrade II (till the Saturday before FO) simply because of “his love for the country”? Of course not, mostly because he felt he needed clay matches at the time and had a few things to iron out.

Wimbledon is different mostly because short 2-3 weeks between the two slams. One then weighs between recovery vs. match-fit.

ATP Cup is no exo at all - the intensity of it is no different from Davis Cup (esp. the 1st edition), and Djoker played two times the week leading to AO. Laver Cup, by the way, is the ultimate exo.

Has there been any indication this might happen or is this just pure fantasy?

The guy who over the last 5 years has entered how many 250’s/500’s ? Could probably count on 1 hand. Djokovic has more big titles than anyone according to the ATP yet has 85 titles he doesn’t give a crap about them.

Actually to prove my point above about Djokovic not caring about overall titles or 250 events he has entered 11 in the last 10 years
