Don’t worry, the best is yet to come...

Fear not Nole fans, for his recent struggles are not indicative of any permanent decline. To the contrary, his best is yet to come! I know what you may be thinking, “but he’s 31, almost 32.” Yes while this may be considered the age of decline for most normal players, let me point you towards the case of one Roger Federer.

According to many ultronians, Roger has gone above and beyond any level ever reached in his illustrious career... and achieved this all in his mid 30s. Roger’s defeats to Nole at Wimbledon 14,15, US Open 15, Aus Open 16 were apparently the best versions of Roger to ever step onto the court, and who can argue with that logic?

I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t feel down, if Roger can do it, Nole can too!

Totally agree with you that Djokovic is going to further improve. See how Federer answered the question in Dubai 2019

Question:

In 2003 you won your first title in Dubai. How much chances would the Federer of 2003 have against the Federer of today?

Answer from Federer:

Not many chances I believe. The game has extremely changed. It is more dynamic, faster and has become somewhat ruthless. The players are more athletic and the material makes the game faster. I myself have become better. In fact, I had to become better because I had new opponents and new challenges. Tennis on this level doesn’t allow you stagnancy.

This is is vaguely reminiscent of Nole’s proclaimation last year in Shanghai that he is playing the best tennis of his career, even surpassing that of 2011 and 2015! A wonder that it took such an almighty effort for him to beat Roger...

I won't argue that "his best to come" might be true if we look at accomplishments. However, in no way is his actual tennis form going to be better than we have seen in the past.

His best may yet to come, but his hunger and fir e in the belly for that W seems to be dimming, except (maybe) in GS tournaments. His focus & determination seems to be elsewhere at the moment.

That's stupid. Go watch Federer's level from 2004-2007. He never reached those levels again. No one would. That was best backhand, best forehand, best serve, fastest player all at his peak.

Agreed, I guess my sarcasm was lost on some

Agreed. Fed’s quotes from above clearly don’t take into account how much he has slowed over the years. He’s improved his court craft to compensate, but the ultra confident shot maker from that era would easily have a chance against these older dudes. I think he’d have a better chance at overpowering Ultron for example, something he couldn’t dream of managing now.

As Courier once said, experience is overrated, give me a young guy full of confidence any day.
Unless that “any day” happens to be this **** weak era of course.
