Hi, can anyone give me a review of the donnay formula pentacore or even quadcore versions? I used to own a dual core formula and wanted to know how do these new sticks compare? Are they similar to Angell rackets?

That's already old technology. I would not waste my time on anything other than Infini-Core.

Both Donnay and Angell are hard to access and try them out. Donnay used to be available in many retail outlets around the world and also had some player exposure, but nothing now.

I am currently doing a demo of a Donnay Pentacore Formula. I put in a request on their website late on a Sunday night and on Monday morning I got an email with the tracking info. Racquet arrived that Thursday.

Overall I have been impressed with the racquet. I was using a Wilson Burn FST 99s but was starting to develop tennis elbow that was actually waking me up at night with pain. Since I got the racquet last Thursday I have played with it every day (sometimes twice) and the tennis elbow has actually gotten better even though I have played more.

Once I get my hands on a Balbolat Pure Drive to compare with (since that is what most people compare this racquet too) I'll be doing a full review. But one thing I can say is that coming from the Wilson, my friends were taken off guard by the extra pop I was getting on the ball and more than one person has commented on how heavy my forehand ball was. Also, the first time I played with it, I was shocked at how well it was carving on my slices.

The 99S is one heck of a failure, you're better off without it lol ;)

I preferred the pro one GT (quad core) because it was 5 grams heavier and a little stiffer than pentacore.

What did you end up with?

I have tried the quad, penta, and hexacore models of the 18x20 pattern 97 sq in. The quadcore pro one gt 18x20 is the best version. The other ones felt too muted and lack of pop and power. If you have very bad elbow issues and dont want a lot of power, then the penta and hexacore is better for you. The quad is a tad stiffer but I feel like it best fits my feel. Too bad they dont make them anymore.

I have Penta 97 and the earlier versions. All that people said above is correct. I would just add this: Penta lost the very special feel that the new Donnay brought to market. It feels much more conventional. Magic of the earlier generations is gone.

That said, in Penta they addressed the problems of the earlier iterations: it swings a lot lighter / faster, it feels softer on impact ( in a conventional way). There is no oomph and wow, but the ball leaves the frame in a very conventional way. I no longer suffer the slowness of the earlier versions, or occasional wild shots. The racquet has become much more predictable, and I am having good results with it in matches.

If your physical strength allows you to wield the old versions without problems (timing), then go for it -- the feel and power are better. But if those feel wild and heavy, Penta will be a better choice.
