Donnay X series racquets- Massive rollout and a now gone

Donnay spent a huge amount of time, money, and massive amount of advertising for their X and X dual series racquets. Now they are no where to be found. What specifically happened that made them disappear so fast? I think even Jim Courier even used them in the "Senior Series"( whatever name they change it to from year to year) events. Just sort of odd to come and go so fast with such a decent past history of decent racquets.

I've looked over their website and 1 or 2 sticks interest me, but at that price and with no word of mouth feedback, I'd never pull the trigger. If they can work with TW and we can get some demos that'd be nice. But I can't drop $250 on an unknown racquet made by an unknown company. Because, let's face it, this is not your dad's Donnay.

Unknown is a bit of a misnomer, but yeah the prices are ridiculous without a reputation. I do own the x-dual gold and platinum 94...both are excellent platforms and very high quality, especially string sensitive tho and I don't know why. The gold in stock form strung in a hybrid is a spin monster.

I believe the Xenecore is the foam filled aspect of the Donnays, which is a nice feature. Sticks are probably pretty good, but likely not any better than the Volkl's that you'll be able to pick up much cheaper as new lines come in.

Let me tell you what Donnay did to me a couple of months ago. I ordered some Donnay X-P Tour rackets in a 4 5/8 grip. When hey came I decided to remove the original grip and replace it with leather. The people at Donnay had taken a 4 1/2 grip, put on a 4 5/8 butt cap and put on the stock white grip. I really like the racket but that is shady.

That's awful. I hope they rectified that situation for you.

I recently ordered a couple of demos from them. I received them, used them, returned them in 3 weeks w/o any problems. Yes, their prices seem high, but every so often, they run a sale.

they have the worst customer service. which is a shame because the x series were fantastic frames

Which ones did you demo and how did you like them?

i currently play with the x-dual gold 94.

they just never sold well which is why they are basically non-existent now.

Their rackets sound interesting. I'd like to try the Formula GT. I like the idea of a foam-filled hoop area of a racket. Currently I use a Babolat Pure Drive Lite that I filled with foam and weighted to 330 grams strung. Really nice, super stable racket.

I rarely heard anything but great things about the rackets but they gave them insane prices. Completely stupid to try to revitalize a brand that went out of business by making them more expensive than all the other rackets.

I agree their whole recent company is a checkered. And I agree that their prices are very high. And I have had some not-so-good experiences with their customer service over the last couple of years.

On the other hand, the Formula 100 racquet is just fantastic given my back-ground of two shoulder surgeries (left & right). I have gone through all the low-flex "comfort" racquets (Head TT Zebra & Microgel, Voelkl V1 Mid & Pro, Prince Warrior, Wilson Blade 104) but at 47 yrs of age, I need all the help I can get from a racquet to be able to hang with players 10-15 years younger. And the Formula 100 is a Babs clone with the comfort I need. I had so much fun playing this summer and was able to play 3-4 times a week including club competition - something I have not been able to do in the last few years.

thats odd. the formula like you said is a babolat clone and quite stiff. i would try pro kennex for the soft flex. or yonex

Yes it seems odd. But I mentioned too that at my age and playing against younger guys wielding all the modern stiff racquets I needed all the extra help I can get. So I finally found the Formula 100 which is a Babs clone incl. the stiffness - but with the incredible comfort that I needed to even be able to play with it. This affords me to not have to swing all out on every hit like when I played with the Head Microgel, for example. I have played with the Pro Kennex Ki5x too but I did not like the extra length...

In other words the Formula 100 is the only STIFF racquet that I can play with. Everything else at that RA --> shoulder hurts after an hour of play.
