dri-fit washing problems

I have about 12 nike dri-fit shirts(about half are actual tennis shirts the other half just workout shirts). About 6 or 7 of them have little pulls i guees you would call them. On some of my older shirts there are several of these.
My washing machine has never damaged any other type of clothing.
I think it's possible that they could be caused by the zipper on my tennis shorts(even though i wash everthing inside out).
I love the performance of my shirts but its making me mad that they are getting the little tears on them. I think i may have to wash the shirts seperate from the shorts but to me it seems a little ridiculous.
Has anyone else had this problem?

i dont know what you are saying when you say "little pulls," but i have never faced a problem in washing my dri fit clothing

are you washing only your dri-fit clothes in one load?

usually i just handwash my drifit clothes inside out, and then put them in the dryer or let them hang-dry in the bathroom

occasionally i just have turned them inside out and put them in a regular washing load with the rest of the clothes, cotton or w/e, and it ends up just fine

I think you're really supposed to wash everything inside out, as the washing action can, over time, put more wear and tear on the outside of your clothing, not just the dri-fit stuff.

what about those laundry bags they sell? i think that's what they are for.

yes the thread is pulled thats what i mean. Somotimes they are small but on some shirts i have one about a half and inch long

I would wash them separately, and when you dry them dont use those freshner thingy, I cant remember what you call them. According to Runners WOrld they break down the fabric.

U can buy those laundry bags or you can get a pillow case and wash the shirts in that. I know what you mean by the pulls because I was getting mad with my shirts coming out with the pulls. The pillow works well for me.

you guys are killing me...just throw them in the gdamn washing machine, then in the dryer...some of my dri fit stuff is 4+ years old and i dont do anything special outside of tossing them into the washing machine and then the dryer...its polyester, so no shrinking or fading happen....

The only time this happened to one of my polyester shirts was when I washed and dried it in a load that had a hat with a velcro closure (that obviously stuck to the shirt). As far as zippers go, I make sure that I close them before putting them in so that they don't catch on anything.

With the Nike Dry-Fit clothes I don't think you're meant to use fabric softeners - not sure if there's any connection with this and your pulled threads.

i think i know what you mean by pulls. they are threads that have been pulled out or are splayed and fuzzy disrupting the smooth texture of the fabric right? i think its from catching on metallic edges like the zipper you mentioned. its because the dri-fit shirts are made out of polyester and polyester is sensitive to that kinda stuff.

side note: the "dri-fit" moisture wicking is just a characteristic of the polyester molecule. polyester is like the cheapest fabric to make clothes out of because you don't grow polyester like you grow cotton. you make it in a laboratory (i.e. synthetic). the cheapest clothes at like old navy are made out of a lot of polyester because its cheap, they can go on clearance for 2 bucks because its so damned cheap. oh yeah, another important characteristic of polyester is that it melts easily. so keep cigarette butts and flames away from your polyester clothes because it will burn a hole in it instantly. it always bugs me that nike charges so much for their polyester clothes.

DON'T EVER put Dry-Fit clothes in DRYER!!!

Just wash it and put on rack... You'll be amazed how long they last...

Hey, a mom here who does A LOT of laundry (doing it now, lol)...Tennis clothes are best washed in cold and then hung to dry. Velcro attachments are murder on Nike fabric -- avoid washing together, or be sure the velcro is completely fastened and Nike clothes are washed inside out. If you get pulls -- the best solution is to use a needle threader ($1.29 at Ace Hardward). You push the threader through the fabric as close to the pull as possible, then put the pulled thread inside the plastic circle, and then pull the threader back through to the underside of the garment. Do not cut the pulls -- holes result. Sounds complicated, but super easy and perfect fix. No signs of pulls at all...hope this helps...
