Emma Raducanu News

it's always been the case where they are making plenty of money from other contracts, but they always want more. If another company like Babolat offers her 10 year contract worth more than any other company can offer and this contract will stick even if she gets injured and has to take extended time off,,,, Then do you think she can refuse that ??? That's the kind of contract that babolat gave Rafa.
Racket contracts aren't huge right? Federer's contract with Wilson was worth around 4m per year when he extended it in 2017. Considering Roger's popularity in tennis world, this is likely to be the highest racket contract in tennis. So, any racket contract Emma is going to get will most likely be less than half of that. I just don't think the difference in racket contracts offered by various companies will be in millions. If it's a clothing sponsorship related contract like choosing between Nike, Adidas, Uniqlo etc, then I can see her switching for a better contract as these contracts are worth much more than racket contracts

Its the length of the contract and conditions within it. even if its just 2 million per year for 10 years,, no matter what even if she is injured and has to take off a year,, contract still apply. This kind of contract you can't refuse

Indian Wells will likely be next, although to my knowledge they still haven't officially upgraded her to a main draw wildcard.

Maybe keeping her in the qualies (this time at least) is going to be their way of Tiger-proofing the draw kind of thing.
Apparently, Emma's still on the list for IW qualies. Could someone explain to me why a top 30 WTA ranked player should not have been "upgraded" and not just as a wildcard?

By the way, Emma's on the list for Kremlin 500 now.

I don't think you can upgrade that way. Entry lists are based on rankings of the players as of 5 (or 6) weeks before start of tournament. So, according to rules, Emma wasn't eligible to enter into main draw as her rank was 150 at that point of time. But if she does get a Wild Card (which she will definitely get if she wants to play IW), then she will be seeded as seedings are decided based on the latest rankings

yeah. I did not think about the length of contract. Some of these contracts can be very long. I think Nadal's contract with Babolat is some 9-10 yr contract.

Really interesting match just few weeks before the US open win. This tells you just how close these players really are.

I watched a little and right from the warm up the Belgian does not move at all, she is just walking around most of the time. No wonder she is 180 ranking at 26 years

So, Emma is on hunt for new coach which is not surprising as Richardson was only there for few weeks for the US trip.. I think she will finally be looking for a long term coach instead of the short term coaches she has been working recently. She has now worked with Matt James, Deheas, Mark Pretchey, Nigel Sears, Richardson just in the last 2 years. But sadly the way the British media is reporting, they are making it sound like Emma has been working with him for the last 5-10 years and she dumped him suddenly after winning US Open.

One might think "one lucky lady" and she's. She's healthy has parents then going higher up she won a slam. But now she (as an adult) and her parents has to be careful about choosing a coach (with the top players we see how a change can impact a player both ways), choose the right tournaments, avoid burnout, fulfil the contracts, deal with media attention and in all of this be happy. For me that's a lot. No matter how mature she's she's still 18 and so many demands might overwhelm anyone. It sounds overwhelming a lot. It's probably now like a "mania" euphoric stage and then the real life occurs. Hard training, choices etc.

she did acknowledge in a recent (or today) interview that she isn't still fully developed physically and knows that she can't play week in week out. Just being in top25 should help her a ton with scheduling. No need to play in Qualifiers of 100Ks anymore.

Yes but you know people and fans. We're thirsty and demand more and more. It's important not to give in. Most casual fans with no idea about tennis whom she attracted probably want her to win it all now.

yes...the way British media reported this news, they made it sound like he has been her coach for a long time and then suddenly dumped him after US Open win. I am afraid that when she loses a match in any upcoming tournament, there will be idiots online saying something like maybe shouldn't have changed coach etc etc.

Me, I will come out and say that! Any coaches that are out their without a client; have been fired for poor performance, including Darren Cahill!

no. Based on what she said, she will most probably wait till the off-season to hire new coach. Nigel Sears did coach her in the past, though it was only for a 5-6 weeks during this year's grass season
Emma does not really need a coach since she does her own analysis of her opponents before she plays her next match herself. I think she will be with no coach like RF did in his career and did quite well!

I doubt it as she is still new to the tour. Emma might not stick with a coach for a long time but I definitely think she will have a coach. Roger is just a unique case tbh

Emma has also entered in Transylvania Open, WTA250 tournament in Romania happening in last week of October. Halep is also playing. So, she signed up for both Moscow and Transylvania Open, which are scheduled in back to back weeks. Makes me think that she might skip IW at this rate as that would mean 4 back to back weeks of tennis.

I'm wondering from two angles - PR and sport-wise if skipping IW is the right choice. I believe the return to court might be scary to anyone. Obviously IW is a bigger deal. Hmm. Also people's attention span is so short. She was all in the news then LC took over. On to the next thing.

But IW is in the USA, far away from the UK.
Europe is more important for ER.

I know. Why is Europe more important with events that I haven't heard of despite from being from Europe (and not that much into the small tournaments I admit it) vs the almost fifth slam (according to some people here)

Tournaments in which ER plays are important.

Well, IW should give her a wildcard, no? Makes no sense to make the 22nd ranked player play through qualifying. I know the player list was drawn up before USO concluded but they should give her direct entry now. Maybe they are acting like she's too 'privileged' or something to get a wildcard and she is playing hardball by signing up for alternative tournaments in case she doesn't play IW.

What is a LC?

That makes a lot of sense. Emma has a big Romanian connection and from Moscow to Transylvania isn't so far. I bet she'll get a great recognition in both places there which is why she may have chosen them over the US. Well, has she cancelled her IW qualifying rounds yet? Does she have to officially?

Emma will never play qualies again in her life.
Not in London, not in Moscow, not in some US backwater town.

Boggles me why the organizers would be so dull. Also, the reasons behind not giving any considerations to later rankings when drawing the IW player list prior to the USO results may be interesting to see. I like that she's playing hardball with them.

She is still in Qualis but that doesn't matter. If she says that she is participating, then IW will definitely give her WC.
