enough with the 'fed should retire' threads.

he's not gonna retire anytime soon - he knows what's at stake. what moron would quit a sport when your on the brink of being the greatest ever (he probably is but he'll need 1 or 2 slams to cement it).

don't wate your time posting dum threads - its not cool

A lot of 17 year old's & NF (who is mentally 10 yrs old) come out with ridiculous threads because in their heart they know he is one of the few who can threaten Nadal's dominance right now...here are some of the ridiculous threads that have come up since he lost yesterday,

Should Federer retire now just like Henin did?

Federer needs to learn a lesson form Sampras & the Williams'

Murrays game has too many dimensions.

When will Federer win his first title of the year?

Federer and the structural problems of the 1H backhand

Who thinks Federer will not win another slam?

26 ERRORS of BACKAHND in 3 SETS??? WTF IS UP??????

Roger Federer, what could have been?

Can A Murray beat Federer at Wimbledon ? and make his own history by winning it all?

Roger Federer will never be the same

Stick a fork in Roger! he's done

I support freedom of speech and I value diversity of opinion. Obviously, many many educated and knowledgeable tennis fans feel that federer sucks, should retire, is bad for tennis, etc. Let them express their opinion, I say. Perhaps we can all learn something from listening to what they have to say.

Yes people should express their opinion.
I particularly liked when people mused if Dimitrov is destined for greatness (when Dimitrov was perhaps trying to get a license for drinking).
These threads should be there. Otherwise trolls will contaminate few sensible threads that exist.

Nadal should retire. Murray should retire.

Nadal should retire. Murray should retire.

As you can see, we're trying to have a logical discussion here.
"Nadal should retire. Murray should retire." is certainly illogical and saying "Federer should retire" is too. I'm not saying ur not allowed to say it, but some people are just saying things that are outright crazy (like what I posted above).

There is a difference though, you see. Things you say (like the post above) are often times outright crazy (esp. the missing space between lines 5 and 6), whereas people who say "federer sucks" more often than not have a valid point to convey. I suggest you listen to others' opinions more.

The missing space was a copy-paste error lol

Anyways, I'm saying that comments like "fed should retire now" are crazy. First of all, he's #2 in the world. That obviously means he maintaining a high level of play consistently and getting good results. Also, he's been in the past 4 GS finals. That means he has given himself a shot at winning GS and is continuing to do so. Both of these pieces of data would show to any person that Fed is still at the highest echelons of the game. Therefore, it would make no sense to retire. He still has a very good shot at winning 1-2 slams this year (which could potentially set records).

I'm not trying to discount his loss to Murray but a loss at a Masters doesn't mean that much. Esp because it wasn't a first round loss - it was in the SF after all

If Fed goes out early in the GS consistently, then u can start to build a case. But as of now, he's still at the top and still has more than enough ability to win a few more slams before he actually does retire. (He's only 27 right now. Even sampras played into his 30's)

Federerdomination,

I think its time you changed your name...its sort of funny.

By the way I never said Federer should retire.....I said he should do what The Williams sisters do and what Pete Sampras did. whats wrong with that?

Also how is saying Murray has too many dimensions about Federer retiring?

I think you are having a nervous breakdown. And with a name like "Federerdomination I cant say I blame you.

What your really trying to say is ...."If I think anything is even a remotely neagtive statement about Federer than it should be banned".

Well, I don't want to argue about this, because everyone of course is entitled to form their own opinion. However, drawing an arbitrary line like "going out of slams early" is dangerous, because the criterion lacks objectivity. Because then he'd be tempted to stay on the tour just for occasional early round wins in lower tier events, etc. Again, it's a slippery slope and a quick downward spiral, very easy to go past the "point of no return".
