Ok, i remember i saw this pic (thanks to poster UKT, this is one of his pics he posted on another thread) a while ago and thought that those things looked pretty nifty. Now i've got a few questions.

a) what are they?
b) what do they do?
c) where can i get them?
d) can i get them fitted on my new LM Prestige Mid

Power Pads? I think there was a thread on that awhile ago. Some said they dampen the stringbed. If a springy compound is used, perhaps they can give you more power.

yeah that's safin's racket, i've borrowed the pic from one of the threads about his racket (thanks again to UKT for the pic, he took them at wimbledon.

anyways, they're not power pads, power pads are merely strips of leather, these seem more like an extension of the grommets.....

speaking of power pads, if you have an LM Prestige, you know the head tape curls all the way round.... how would you put power pads in those? it looks as if once you pull the string to the required tension, the pad would get caught in between the string channel thing (its hard to describe)

leather can be black too... maybe the stringer ran out of leather so he cut up his already too old leather wallet xD

If they're power pads why do they stick out so much? also, why does he only have them on the 6 o'clock position? shouldn't power pads be put all the way around the frame for a more even feel?

i thought they were like special grommet thingys................

They're thick powerpads. Trust me

They are power pads. Although traditionally power pads are made from leather, rubber type materials also do a good job. I actually use old wiper blade refills for my power pads

'Power pads', as they are ridiculously called, are never placed all around the frame.

Their purpose is to protect the string from the frame, and the frame from the string in areas where the string angle and pressure is greatest.

You typically see them at 6 o'clock, 5 o'clock, and 7 o'clock.

It this is Safin's racket, why on earth does he use "power pads" in such a new frame ??

Some of my friends do it, but that is just for fun/show.

Not Power pads...

That's a custom molded throat grommet with what would amount to Babolat woofer style string action. Sort of like molded power pads, but not the same.

ok...so they are or they aren't? we need grant morgan on this one.......... i personally thought the same as Vantage and that they were like special grommets....to like create a woofer or muscle power thing like he said.

No they aren't. Take a closer look... They're definitely just thick pieces of leather.
