Fed:
The traditional placeholder as he is the eldest of the three and has a stunning resume. We don't know if he'll add anymore major accomplishments to it but he can be attacked in the following areas:
Slams: Nadal is within range and Djoker can put himself in range with a multi-slam year next year. 20 sounds like it is enough but things can change quickly. Rafa would be equal with Fed right now if he hadn't gone on his late career slam winning spree.
Weeks and YE # 1: Djoker has equalled Fed for YE # 1 and is favourite to add to that next year. Weeks at # 1 gap between Fed & Djoker will shrink next year.
Rafa:
Needs to equal Fed and then differentiate himself by winning the double career grand slam (needs a second AO)
WTF: One would be good but Rafa could also end up with as much as 10 more M1000 than Fed to offset the 5 title gap in WTF. Golden masters would help too (Miami & Paris)
YE # 1: Needs at least one more (2018 would have been very handy) which will also boost his weeks to at least 240 and into the upper teir with Fed, Djoker, Connors & Lendl
Djoker:
Resume is very strong, just needs to get the slam count up. 2019 is an important year for him, a multi-slam year is crucial to him staying in the race and running out the year at # 1 will place him within Fed's record for weeks at # 1. Seems to be the most likely of the three to win the Grand Slam which would probably tip him over the edge. If the GS happened next year it would be hard to argue against:
18 slams (with the Grand Slam and only man to win all slams at least twice)
6 YE # 1
280 weeks at # 1
