Federer and mono.

Federer's mono was the (main) reason he performed poorly from AO to Miami?

Fed didn't give any excuse after the match you worhtless troll, now go back to your cave and stay there.

Well, that's not completely true:

From FSN:

Federer made clear afterward he was not pleased that play continued despite the low visibility at the end

"It's rough on me now, obviously, you know, to lose the biggest tournament in the world over maybe a bit of light," he said.

Maybe not completely an excuse, but he seems to be saying that if it had been lighter, he would have won.

Fed did give a lot of credit to Nadal in the presser afterwards, but the light comment is pretty lame.

Have you ever tried playing tennis after 9:00pm without any lights? It's even worse inside a stadium like Centre Court because you don't get the light from the side from the setting sun because it's being blocked by the high stands.

It's also lighter for them than where you are in NorCal, because they are further north. And yes I have played in the dark. Nadal had the same conditions people! Give me a break. So Federer lost because he is STILL "sick" and couldn't see. Ok. Right.

Let's be honest here, Federer is a complete sham. He may as well not even bother showing up for the rest of the year. What a joke Federer is.

Fed was very gentlemanly and gracious after the loss. (So was Rafa.) He's a great player, a good human being, and an amazing fighter.

I'll actually be rooting for Fed to win the USO this year. Look out Pete. . .

And did you win Wimbledon playing in the dark? :-?

Nadal hits with a ton of spin that's tough enough to track when it's broad daylight. Imagine trying to do it in the dark with a small racquet. I'd say it was tougher for Federer than it was for Nadal playing in those fading light conditions.

That excuse won't stand. Since the first set Roger has never broken Rafa's serve any more, while Rafa did it three times. Roger was serving first in the last set, which was a hugh advantage for him considering he has a better serve. I am so proud of Rafa, who stood the pressure and fought with a champion's heart.

Actually, when it is dark, it gives advantage to the better server, because it is hard for the returner to track the ball, while the server has a full control.

Anyway, I think Roger just regreted he didn't pull it out at the end and he didn't mean the darkness was the cause for his failure. He gave enough credit to Rafa in the interview.

My bad. The only break Roger got was in the 2nd set. My point was Roger had a hard time to break Rafa.
In the last several games of the fifth set, Rafa put a lot of Roger's serves back to play, which really surprised me.

You should indeed watch that match again my friend.

I don't understand why this thread was revived. Fed did have mono but it wasn't an excuse for his losses his last year nor should it have been used as one. Fed never used it as an excuse. Some of his fans did and the media. But that was last year. No need to bring it up now. No excuse for this loss. He just played badly, djokovic played well also.

I see last year his loss to Djokovic etc was due to mono...so whats the reason this year?

I didn't say 2008 AO semi loss was because of mono, don't put words in my mouth troll("Attila the tennis bum" and "balls in your court").

Nadal played in the same conditions as Federer. It doesn't matter if it was tougher for Federer in those conditions than it was for Nadal. Quit making excuses for Federer. The fact is Federer is getting older and the young players are getting better. Federer cannot keep dominating like he did for almost 4 years. The players are constantly trying to get better so they can beat him. Now that guys like Murray and Djokovic are able to beat Federer, everyone wants to make an excuse for Federer saying, "what's wrong with Federer?" rather than, "these young guys have improved so much." Djokovic and Murray are around the same age as Federer was when he won his first Wimbledon. Federer is losing to quality opponents like: Nadal, Murray and Djokovic. Once Federer starts losing in the first or second round of a grand slam then we can talk about "what's wrong with Federer."

I just wanted to bump this thread before I go.

So *******s, *********s, Murraytards, there are 96 (!!!) people here who blame all Fed's troubles from early 2008 on mono. Most of them are probably *******s. That's similar to Nadalfans blaming injuries for Rafa's losses, right?

Feed free to rub this thread in the face of any ******* who complains about Rafatards no giving credit to Federer.

One thing is for sure....tendinitis <> Mono, so you can’t compare the two.

I think Roger suffered more than Nadal b/c tendinitis is just an inflammation of the tendon. It can be a pain on the joint, but tendinitis can recover with adequate amount of rest. Mono poses more problems....high fever, sore throat, swollen glands and tonsils, fatigue, enlargement of the spleen. Plus, instead of sit out to recover, Roger chose to play almost every events, while Nadal chose to sit out. Huge difference.

Mono affected Roger more than Nadal’s tendinitis.

that wimbledon postmatch interview shows how unbelievably immature federer is, he blamed the poor light, even though nadal had to return a brilliant serve while federer only had to return nadals serve, so if anything nadal was at a disadvantage, incredible federer simply incredible
