Federer is the best

Federer is the greatest player of all time. He will beat all records if he stays healthy. When federer learns to serve and volley he will have moved into a class of his own. For those of you with negative comments regarding Federer's game your inexperience in the tennis industry blinds you from seeing a legend in the making!!!

Yes. I was AT Wimbledon (North baseline 25 rows up) in 1985 when an 18 year-old Becker won it. I've seen Lendl (Sampras and Becker too) play many dozens of times in person and on television. Until today what I've seen of Federer has been on television highlights; today is the first time that I have seen him over a full match from start to finish.

And, I play tennis five days a week as the tennis director at our club.

Ok i think i have more say as i was at wimbledon ( North baseline 24 rows up) in 1985 when the teen becker won it - you are the loud fat guy at the 25 row huh.

also i watched lendl and becker 2 dozen times in person and on TV.
Ive also seen federer's match a lot .
this makes my point more valid than yours .

BTW i play tennis 6 days a week as a tennis director in our club .

i beat you in all category man...... troll.......

And Pat Cash beat Lendl in Wimbledon (let's not forget Lendl abandoned French to prepare on grass), and he lost the 1982-3 U.S. Open finals to Jimmy Connors who did not have a dominating serve and forehand!

Please see an article I just posted. But let's not forget Nadal beat Andy Roddick in the Davis Cup play. Being a lefty with blistering topspin shots, he is a difficult player to play against. Yes, Federer was confused for three sets!

Yet, Roger Federer employing his worst tennis as you implied, beat a guy firing on all cylinders! Federer is a true champion!

Simply false.

GER V USA WGPO, Carpet, RR
1987, Becker b. McEnroe
4-6 15-13 8-10 6-2 6-2
in a match which lasted over 6hrs.
Marius, was today's match a Davis Cup match? No, I didn't think so. In a big match Becker would hang around. But not for a non-Slam, non-Davis Cup match. He would have been throwing tantrums, arguing about line calls and would have gone into the tank.

This thread is just trolling for negative responses.

...and it looks like he caught some of the big fish with it too ;)

Xevoius,

You may indeed be right. But the guy keeps backing his claims up with multiple posts.....therefore if he was truely trolling.....he is the sadder case. I responded because I think this guy is our typical conservative, traditional nuthead....and sounds like someone who voted Bush. Hmmm.....Tennis director...plays several times a week....stopped watching pro tennis in 1990?? Indeed.....

no way!!!!!

No way!!! I grew up "worshipping" Boris as a kid. For years, I even copied Boris' service action, where he rocked back and forth without bending his knees. I had posters of Boris in my bedroom as a kid.
Let me tell you, Federer is superior to Boris in EVERY part of the game except the serve. And Federer has a good serve too, just not as explosive as Boris. As others have already said in this thread, Feds has a better return of serve, better forehand, better backhand, and better movement.
Also, if you think Federer's performance today was erratic, Boris' performance on several occasions was awful!! As a Boris fan, I used to get so frustrated. During the 1990 final against Edberg, he went to sleep during the 1st two sets. Shockingly, he went to sleep again against Michael Stich in the 1991 final!!
I love Boris, but being a tennis lover first, I can never accept that he is as good as Federer.

Brettolius,

Learn to speak English, learn to read English.

There are no children at my club - eighteen and over. I stopped watching professional tennis around 1990 or so, only caught today's match because I couldn't play (I'm home sick with a mild fever.)

Federer has several professional weaknesses in his game, someone should be able to exploit them. Then again, if Nadal is representative of what his competition is...

A mild fever ??? Looks like a very serious one to me...

Wow! A lot of posters here feel that they have the right to tell others what to do.

The fact that a middle-aged Agassi can still hang with the best in the world at a Masters event should tell you something. I mean, if Federer and a bunch of Eurotrash rugrats are currently the best... sheesh.

And, why DO they get injured so much?

I was going to dignify your post with a real reply, but now i just think your an idiot...

Sampras would kill Fed in his prime...and easy!

Sampras OR Becker would have killed Federer at their prime....especially the way Fed played in the first 2.5 sets!! Tom Selleck...you really prove you haven't watched enough tennis in your life. If you have a chance go take a look at the Hannover final of 1996 between Sampras and Becker....go and learn what the complete tennis game is all about!

p.s. and by the way, when Fed beat Sampras at Wimbledon please note that Sampras was at the end of his career while Federer was on his way to reaching his prime. I wouldn't consider beating sampras in 5 sets almost all 7-6 such dominance over smoeone whose was physically and mentally worn out!

So what are some of these professional weaknesses that Federer has, also, Agassi hasnt taken a set of him since the US Open when it was windy as hell, the only reason Agassi stayed close. Its been straight sets at the Aussie, Dubai, & Key Biscayne, 7 in a row. Thats staying with him???

I don't agree with the personal insults you have received.
But, look at what you are doing. You are a tennis director, that's okay. You are also telling us you have seen just one of Fed's matches. That's okay. You then proceed to make some blanket statement concerning Federer and other great players based upon this one observation and seem to "pull rank" as a tennis director on the others here when they disagree, the ones who have seen Roger play a lot. That's not okay, given your acknowledged ignorance of Roger's play. Watch 2 or 3 more of his matches and your opinion will carry more weight. Anyway, good luck, and hope to hear your opinion about him later in the season.

PS - I might agree with you about Lendl, no way with all-too-often-a-head-case Becker.

You sound like when Sampras and Becker at their prime, they never played bad tennis at all. Becker even lost to Stich 6-0 6-1.

Federer was on his way to reaching his prime in 2001? He didn't do that until two years later. While Sampras was still dominating Wimbledon in 2000.

Again, I don't know who is better, Sampras or Federer? No one knows for sure. However, people who claim one way or the other better produce better argument than this. Becker is a completely different story because he never dominated like Sampras and Federer. Becker even never finished the year as No. 1.

you armchair analysts are a waste of time. Nothing but cheerleaders for your favourite players, talking **** about other players just to make yourselves feel good.

Poster here is either dreaming or trolling. Sampras may have had a winning record over Fed, maybe not. I think it would have been tight. RE serve, Fed CAN hit it over 130 anytime he wants, I've seen him do it, he simply chooses not to and chooses accuracy instead. Most rounaments he plays he is among the ace leaders for the event. He also has one of the highest serve hold percentages on the tour. Most longer term observers are picking Fed as the best player they have ever seen and, if he keeps it up, the best player ever. I personally still think Sampras was better, but no question both Pete and Roger are far and away better than Lendl or Becker.
