Sampras or Agassi like.

But this whole letter and then coming for one more match thing is ok.

Giving me time to process but not so long I’m tempted to hope he’ll change his mind or get used to him playing.

It seems a little Agassi like actually.

Exactly how it was, nothing to regret. And we had a year to accept that a real comeback would become more and more unlikely. Also he himself never had the pressure of a definitive last match if he loses. And I don't know if I myself would have liked to watch such a match.

I often asked myself how his retirement will be and got through many different scenarios. This here belongs to the least shocking ones.

I actually like the ending he ended up having, for Roger. He always said he would want to keep playing if he felt like there was a chance. He would never want to look back and wonder what could have been. He never would have retired after SW19 2019 or AO 2020, because he truly felt like he could still win one more. With this ending, he came back from 1.5 years off, fought deep at RG and Wimbledon, and his body finally told him it was over. He doesn’t have to wonder, he gave it all he could.

It may not be a fairy tale, but it is what he always wanted in the end.

(on a personal level, I would have wanted WB 2023 QF loss to Carlos in 4, where he announced his retirement before the event so we could all celebrate him one more time)

G.O.A.T.
Most Fed fans don't exist tbh.
Neither do most of Nadal or Djokovic fans.
Most self proclaimed fans of any player are glory hunters and run away when their guy doesn't win, or they abandon the fandom altogether.

I'd have been fine with a 6-1 or 6-2 3rd set for Hurkacz in Wim 21.
But that jerk went for the bagel with fed obviously so hampered.
