What will be your preferred outcome?

Assuming these are the only 2 possible outcomes. Obviously the best outcome will be a new champion but for the sake of clarity, let's keep it to these 2.

a) Rafa gets to 20 and matches Roger's record, the Holy Grail of Tennis
b) Novak gets to 18 and is dangerously close to Fed and gets a DCGS, although stops Nadal to reach 20

PS: It's multi-option guys, do choose between Djokodal after paying homage to MuryGOAT

Vamos Rafa!

Fine with him joining Fed as the best ever.

Nadal really tested peak Fed to the max. He's the guy that snapped Fed's record 56 match winning streak on hard courts. He also snapped Fed's record 65 match winning streak on grass. Nadal kept tennis from being boring by stopping Federer from completely owning tennis. Case in point, 2006: Federer was 2-4 vs Nadal, yet 90-1 against the rest of the field. 2003-2009: Federer lost only one match on grass and that loss was a thrilling 5-setter in the WI final. Without Nadal, Federer bags 7 straight Wimbledon crowns while going undefeated on grass for a 7 year span.

Nadal should be the one that equals Federer. He took down Fed at his best. Also, I really like Nadal.

With all of that being said, I unfortunately see Federer ending up third in the race. Once Fed is passed by either player, I will give credit where credit is due. I will concede that Federer has been passed. The numbers won't lie. Everything else is just an excuse. The guy that wins the race will have done it fair and square.

I prefer neither nadal nor Djokovic. If Nadal wins Slam record is gone. If latter wins weeks record is gone. So I prefer Thiem. If forced to choose i go with Novak - because he is fully deserves to take weeks record. He is that good. Can't say it about Nadal - as 13/20 Slams gonna come from SINGLE event. This guy should not hold most important record in Tennis.

Good post.

Also, re: the bit in bold - we all know who the "1" was, don't we.

That's why there is a 3rd option in this poll.

Ideally they will end up with
Federer 30 slams
Nadal 30 slams
Djokovic 17 slams

But I will accept
Federer 20 slams
Nadal 20 slams
Djokovic 17 slams

Preferably neither.

Nadal winning another RG though is just an annual tradition really. Why stray from it now when the only one to benefit would be Djokovic? Unless Thiem has a double in him.

MuryGOAT is their easy way out. You shouldn't offer the escape option.
Why don’t you just respect the thread and not vote. This is for Federer fans.

You’re obviously not one.

Why would you vote and skew the results of the posted question?

You can still redeem yourself and change your vote to Murray.

If Bull wins this RG then there will be no way around it, he'll smash Fed's record in a few months. And that would be the end of tennis. What's gonna left for Fed if Bull takes the GS record while Djokovic takes the rankings records??! Disgust.

I'm just gonna hope Djokovic saves tennis and Fed one more time. Please.

VERY IMPORTANT:

Even if Federer loses both the slam record and the weeks at no.1 record, it’s better that Nadal gets the slam record and Djokovic has the weeks at no.1 record instead of only one player having both. By rooting for Djokovic you increase your chances for Djokovic to end up with both of these records (slams and weeks at no.1) and then Federer will almost have no claim for GOAT. But if Nadal ends with the slam record we can still argue that Federer has an extra 100 weeks at no.1. There’s no question about it you must root against Djokovic, and if possible light candles in front of religious pictures while doing it! 8-B

Djokovic at 18 with a DCS easily. This poll is ridiculous. Lol

Edit: this is what is wanted and not what is better. In that case, the poll is right. Nadal getting 20 is a better option.

If Djokovic takes RG he's on 18, he's gonna need 3 more Majors to surpass Federer. A lot can happen next year and I doubt he'll be able to win the 3 titles he's gonna need to break the record. On the other hand, Nadal winning RG means he shares the record with Fed at the spot and we have another RG in a few months so yeah. Djokovic or anyone else but Bull please.

First, Djoker will win at least 4 more slams. Second, Rafa will win at least 2 more FO so it really does not matter. The question is who would you rather have holding the record?

They both will end up with more slams than Federer anyway, so save that weeks at no. 1 argument for fighting over 2nd place with Nadal.

Fed was unlucky that those clay finals were BO5, in MC and Rome.Other than that, that Dubai loss was a little weird.

I kinda accepted Bull is winning 2 more FOs but if he loses this one then there's hope for Fed to keep the record. I still believe Fed can add one more Wimbledon and lol @ Djokovic winning 4 more.

Djoker is a lock to win 4 more. I think you would be in the minority if you believe he can only reach 20.

Nothing is a lock in sports, nothing. 4 more slams is a lot to win, he is 33 years old, the young players are getting better... would I be shocked if he wins 4 more? No, but do I think it is inevitable? Nope.

Did I think my favorite all time player Edberg wouldn't win another slam after the 92 USO? Nope. You never know when the winning will stop, injuries, lack of motivation, another player goes on a tear winning everything? Who knows.

I don’t really care who wins how many slams. Even if both surpass Federer’s records, which is almost inevitable, there is no doubt who is the true master of tennis. Is Serena better than Graf, is Hamilton better than Schumacher? There are intangibles that define greatness, numbers do not tell the whole story.

And Djokovic beat a prime Nadal 7 straight times across three different surfaces, the longest winning streak that any member of the big three has had over another. Always amazes me how people seem to believe that beating a ‘peak’ Federer is the only conceivable barometer of a player’s greatness and that a player who hasn’t achieved this feat according to a subjective eye test is somehow less deserving of his his greatness being acknowledged. Federer is without a doubt one of the greatest players to have picked up a tennis racket, but again this is indicative of how overrated the guy is around here.
