Federer/Murray play on Centre Court again

When they play their QF matches, including last year, Murray will have played 9 straight matches on Centre court, Federer 7.

If both reach the final, they will both have played on Centre court for the whole tournament.

Is it time for a change in organising?

I brought this up a few days ago http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/centre-court-scheduling.567317/

Tim Henman is on the committee that makes the decisions. Up to the players and their representatives now to start making complaints to the committee.

Want to know why Murray and Roger haven't played on Court 1 this year? 1. Rafael Nadal isn't playing and 2. Novak went out in the third round. This has avoided a '3 big names competing for 2 slots on centre' situation.

That, and Andrew Jarret hates Novak. Or maybe it's the Queen, or the DoE, but definitely someone somewhere - most probably someone with a white cat on their lap.

Surely, mens tennis is more than about two names left isn't it? The opportunity to play those two chaps on Court 1 was there in the earlier rounds, I agree tomorrow they have to play both matches on Centre Court.

^^ That makes sense about center court availability. Stan W is also out, so quite a few top seeds missing.
Of course the conspiracy theory that they wanted Novak out and scheduled him on court 1 in the rain (regardless of the fact that the rain delay actually helped him regroup), and are now just rubbing it in by continuing to schedule Fedray on center ct will continue.

Write to Andrew Jarret mate if you feel strongly about it. What I will say is that this year is the exception and not the norm. Murray usually does his stint on court 1, as does Roger.

Can't figure why people get so offended. If Fed can play a first round match on Court 1 why do the others take objection?
What could be objectionable is not letting players finish on CC on rained out days.

Fed's match against Johnson should not have been on Centre (I would put Venus instead, past champ and hasn't played on Centre yet). But now it's the quarters, Novak is out, Cilic is a GS winner and it's likely going to be an intense match. Don't need to say much on Murray.

Why are people making such a big deal out of this? They're not in the same half of the draw, so they won't be playing at the same time, and when you look at the other two matches it makes perfect sense that they'd both be on Centre Court.

If Novak hadn't been booted out of the tournament already Roger would have probably been on number 1 tomorrow. Later in the tournament obviously there's far more chance the biggest names will be playing on the biggest court.

I felt like Fed and Evans was the travesty when there were better matches out there. If Evans had been from any other country, I bet it would have been on a different court. Wimbledon and Roland Garros are really bad with this when a countryman is involved.

Yes, Federer got the CC because he was playing British players. Not his fault as others are thinking. With Djokovic and Stan out, there's no other option.

I was looking at the draw earlier , and it was obvious that Fed and Murray would play on CC, and the other two on C1. I was thinking Berdych would play later to give him more rest, and perhaps Murray would chose the second slot since there'll be more crowd in the evening.

It would just not make sense to put Querrey and Pouille/TB on CC and Fed on C1.

Agreed. I know there are issues with balancing the Best of Three and Best of Five matches, and they want to give Centre Court ticket holders value for money, without risking too many matches. I also wonder if they think that two Williams sisters in a single day is too much. Sadly for Venus, Serena will always get top billing these days.

Of course it would have been on a different court, but Evans has played a big part in the Davis Cup and there will be a lot of extra interest in seeing him play compared with a player from another country. Why shouldn't that match go on the court with the most capacity, just so that someone's ego gets to be massaged by being on the biggest court? All courts are televised, so it shouldn't make any difference to tv viewers around the world.

What's the point of this thread? Federer and murray have been the two biggest draws at wimbledon since Tim Henman by far

I have never seen 2 players being so heavily protected by one tournament before . As if the organisers decided before the start of the tournament, that they want Federer-Murray final here and that they would do whatever it takes for this final to happen this year.

Yeah because Serveathon Querrey and Raonic that everyone wants to watch should be on centre. Or maybe Pouille Berdych? Clearly the best matches, but they put the matches on that will attract the most interest. Pretty pathetic people complaining all the time about this, most of the players don't actually care if they are put on smaller courts they just play. Not to mention that as people have said a load of bigger players knocked out so they don't have to compete for the slots.

It's a pro sport. Much as you'd like it to be about competition, the people who put these spectacles on don't give a crap about the competition. It's about making money.

And as such, you put the biggest draws in the place with the most seats AND the most TV coverage capability. If they weren't putting Fed, Andy, and Serena in there every chance they got, they'd be idiots. And since they've been making money with this tournament for going on a century and a half now, we can safely say they're not idiots when it comes to doing so.

If it's any consolation Murray did make a request for his match against Yen-Hsun Lu to be on Court 1 if he needed to play on it.

Australian Open has been way more protective of Federer, there have been times that he's played nothing but night matches on Rod Laver while his opponent for his semi-final (which will be a night match on Rod Laver) has been slumming it up on Hisense. Outragous to the point of using the wrong indefinite articles!
