Federer, Nadal and Djokovic

Out of Federer ( by the end of 2007), Nadal (2010) and Djoker (2015) who according to you appeared the most poised to rake a lot of slams in the year or two following?

Edit: reading the comments I want to clarify, do consider everything age, competition etc

My take: for Federer , it appeared he has no competition back then. Nadal only dominating on clay. No one else close by.
Although, Nadal is a minor threat and Djokovic showed he has s spark in 2007.

Nadal: he went past Federer. Looked invincible on all surfaces. He was young and fit.
Tour has some talent in Djokovic , Murray and Delpotro. Just not sure if anyone will take a leap forward.

Djokovic: Federer is done. He can make finals and challenge him but deep down everyone knows Djokovic will win. Nadal looks like he is done. Murray looks like his best is in his past. No real new talent in near future. Just wawa and above mentioned players might win a slam or two but it's all djokers to lose for the next two years. That's what it looks like for now.

I'd say Nadal. He won 3 slams in 2010 on 3 different surfaces where he started to find his peak form on other surfaces like HC and not just clay, Federer wasn't in sights to reach slam finals so he pretty much was ready to take over after 2010. Plus he was at a ripe age of 24. No one expected Novak to step in 2011 though and have the season as he did so things were setup for Nadal.

People don't think about that; Nadal cruising into 2011 with not a care in the world winning last 3 majors of 2010; except that Nole "got his act" together! Nadal was in final after final from IW/Miam, then Madrid/Rome, but was bested each time by Djokovic; the clay events in straight sets! Nadal did his thing in Paris, but Roger had upset Nole in the semi so we'll never know how that "could have gone" and change history! Nadal continued making major finals, losing each in 4 to his nemesis from Serbia! You can say if not for Nole, Rafa may have dominated for years to come! He's only been able to find form in 2013; other than that he's been scratchin' just to remain in the top 10! ;-)

Nadal. He was 23, and seemingly only a to-be 30 year old Federer was his competition.
Novak was a serious competitor in 2010. Not winning a slam does not make you useless or a pushover.

But I agree with your choice, simply because he was the youngest of the choices on offer.

When looking at the age when each player was in period of dominance, Nadal seemed to be the most poised to continue with that.
But when looking at the threats in the upcoming years, Djokovic seems to have a good chance to continue with what he did in 2015. Not saying he will do it 100%, don’t want to jinx it.

It wasn't just about winning a slam. It was without a doubt his worst year in Tennis. He didn't even reach a Masters final whereas in the previous years he was atleast reaching Masters finals and winning them. Up until the SF of the USO he didn't even have a single top 10 win, it was like he was regressing in 2009-2010 when Todd Martin became his coach. His tennis, especially his serve was bad, too many loses against way lower ranked players over the season and way too many tight matches.

Those were incredibly dark two years, especially when comparing them to 2011 and every next one.
In 2009, he failed to reach a GS final but reached a lot of Masters finals.
In 2010 it is the opposite, reached a GS final but no Masters finals.
The Davis Cup title really blessed him I think.

Nadal, and he would have if it weren't for Novak.

Remember, Rafa made 3 slam finals in 2011 and 4 in a row counting AO 12.

Amazing what Ultron did to 25 year old Peakdal

2009 was his worst year, but 2010 though weak compared to the following ones saw him win Davis Cup and reach a slam finale again. Plus I believe he won a M1000.

Nah he didn't win a M1000 in 2010. He won two 500s and the Davis Cup, with a slam final. 2009 he didn't reach a final but he reached 5 Masters finals and won 1 of them, plus he won 4 other tournaments. Depends what you think was more successful but in 2010, it's not just about the results. His game was regressing, he was losing to players that he shouldn't even have been losing to.

No top 10 wins until USO SF is quiet bad tbh.

Of course 2007 and 2008 were better but if I was to rank which was the worst between 2009 and 2010, I'd put 2010 above because of results and performance.

You're right about the M1000, even 2009 was better than 2010 in that sense, clearly.

However 2010 ended with a high. The DC definitely propelled him to have the 2011 season, and the USO had a hand in getting him to win the DC. That part of the 2010 season was KEY to the rest of his career.

Have you any idea what it means for a tiny country like Serbia to win Davis Cup? That was BIGGER than a slam win for Novak, and I might even agree with him, even though you will very rarely hear me saying anything can come close to a slam win.

But what about the competition?
Nadal has two "will they/ won't they" players in djokovic and Murray at the back of his heels.
Compare that to the competition of Djokovic now.
