He can say whatever he wants. But I'm pretty sure he won't find peace again as a tennis pro until he wins another Slam beating Djoker in the process. Because if he thinks otherwise, then he'd better hang up his racket.

i thought i was a debbie downer but this is just wack way of looking at things. clearly there is a lot of projecting going on

Fed looking fit as can be today but was icing his knee after practice.

Even Goffin/Pouille is playing perfect, it'll still take Fed being off his game in order to lose to them, in which case he could/would probably lose to anyone and definitely isn't in shape to threaten Djokodal, so there won't be anything lost.

i know its bo5, but then just have flashbacks of wtf where i thought damn this is it fed is going to get 7,easy peasy, goffin in the sf, grigor in the final and then fed blows it.

If things went as they should have on July 14, 2019, I would be able to sit back and enjoy this USO.

Unfortunately, I know I am going to probably be watching someone get one step closer (possibly one slam) to catching Fed. It will be a tough end to the slam season, and unless a miracle happens, this might be the worst year for me as a Fed fan other than 2013 when I thought he might be retiring

It's a bummer because with one point of difference, 2019 would've easily gone down as one of my favorites. There have been so many good moments the first 6 months of the season, and it was building up perfectly toward reclaiming his Wimbledon crown. It would've been so satisfying after how low he was in 2018, seeing him get better and better as this season progressed.

-100th title in Dubai
-First Masters title in a year and a half
-Clay return with multiple 3rd set TB wins, taking Thiem to MP, winning 2 matches in one day, etc.
-Semi-Finals of the French after 3 years away
-First time reaching 10 titles (Halle)
-Wins first match vs Nadal at Wimbledon since 08 epic
-Beats Nadal & Djokovic back-to-back for first time at a major
-Wins Wimbledon final from down 2 sets to 1 and down a break in the 5th

One can only hope the year was really about him winning the US Open all along, and getting so close to the Wimbledon crown was just another step along the way before finally reaching the top again.

This is what I cling to. But this is stuff of fandom dreams.

I will say it now. If Fed wins USO, it will be my favorite win of all time regardless of who or how. After AO17, I felt all business was settled. Now there is unfinished business. It does not sit well.

I still can't imagine anything being better than AO17. I couldn't have written a cornier movie script for how that played out it. It was literally perfect.

I can agree with this, given the context of not winning it since 2008 and more so now after that painful Wimbledon final :)

to be honest i think its because novak has been a thorn in his side more recently than nadal so i feel like it would have brought me the same joy plus its wimbledon.
I think we all agree, that after this summer, if he goes out and beats Djoker, then Rafa to win USO, this has to feel close to the best Fed moment ever.

I guess not everyone will feel that way (@BeatlesFan), but for me I don't see how it could not be the greatest Fed moment for me.

Then again, AO17 was never an option in my opinion. I thought he would NEVER win again. At this moment, I think he COULD win another.

But I'm curious, is AO 17 your all time favorite? You've been rocking that RG 09 avatar since forever, and it's one of the few titles I could see a fan valuing more than 17.

haha, i dont know what my all time favorite is. Ao 2017 is definitely up there ofcourse. To be honest, i'm also lazy so that is part of why i haven't changed my avatar, but i have very fond memories of rg 09 tbh and not just for the tennis , but also collectively going through it with people here, the nadal shock loss, followed by novak promptly losing to all the pressure on roger and then going through that roller coaster match with haas and then del potro, its something I'll never forget and since its roger's only rg, its special in that way.

AO 2017 is special in its own way too and i have many vivid memories. I still watch that 5th set with nerves, even though i know what is going to happen.

After that, i also really enjoyed wimbledon 2012 (funny what many thought to be his swan song) and also someone overlooked, his USO 2008. I feel like that is when the USO audiences really started to pull for him, viewed him as an underdog, and it was really enjoyable watching him show his emotions on court.

I was just watching that match again and enjoyed it (but who regarded him as an underdog? He was massively favored in that match). Murray played very much below his level there and Roger had extremely long hair for him. It never was this long again.

I wasn't specifically referring to just the final, but throughout the tournament in general. I don't think he came in as the favorite and I think people stopped viewing him as the man to beat and this invincible person that he may have been viewed in prior years. That andreev match will always be memorable for me, as is his semi against novak too.

i hate that i feel this way, but legit he could win USO and heck win wimbledon next year and be on 22 and I'll still be like that's great, we could have had 23 if you converted a freaking championship point.

I had made a deal with me brother to get him ice cream after the match if fed finished. I had my shoes on and keys in my hand. I was ready to head out... no ice cream. And no win ffs
:(

After the match ended, I was staring at the screen, my mouth open for about 10 minutes. I couldn't utter a word. My wife who isn't a big tennis fan didn't try to console me because she was also shocked by the outcome. It was a very strange feeling.

My wife walked out after he got broke back. She knew to get out. She is a huge Rafa fan and wanted no part in the aftermath.

I had no emotions that day. I have never been prepared for such an immediate sense of excitement, and for it to disappear so fast.

Why are we talking about this again? Are you my shrink. I am OVER IT. CANT YOU SEE? I HAVE MOVED ON!!!!!!!

It was a freaking tie... It was a tie... a tie... tie...

I can't even explain it to non tennis fans.

Calm down my fren. Look at it this way. Djoker needed to win 5/5 TBs in order to best Fedr in their last 2 matches. Lose any of thost TBs, and Fedr wins either match. Sure, it sux how the cookies fell, but, it won't always fall Djokr's way.

As soon-to-be-retired Tipsy's tattoo says... 'Keep Digging' Fedr, and the wins will come. ;)

If I may ask, how do you cope being married to a Rafa fan? My boyfriends/husband have always liked who I liked: Lendl, Andre, Roger. If hubby was a Nadal fan, I couldn't watch a match with him, it would **** me off too much. How do you do it?
