Sure feels like it does.

injured/out-of-form-Djokr ducked in-form-Fedr, EVERY time since AO17 when both are in the draw.

injured-Fedr met in-form-Djokr 2 times (Cinci18/Bercy18, Fedr with chances in both).

Real Fedr's H2H against 30+yo, post-prime Djokr is really 0-1 (lost while winning 14-15pts more). And Fedr is also giving Djokr a ~6yr handicap. That reflects worse on Djokr than Fedr. ;)

If I may ask, how do you cope being married to a Rafa fan? My boyfriends/husband have always liked who I liked: Lendl, Andre, Roger. If hubby was a Nadal fan, I couldn't watch a match with him, it would **** me off too much. How do you do it?
Not easy. Especially when she throws in comments that we would see on TTW. things like "if Rafa gets 20 he is GOAT," and "Fed looks really old now."

Really petty stuff, and always has this smirk on when he is losing. I also had to wait 4+ hours at IW to see Rafa practice. Then Rafa threw her a ball and she makes me display it in my office.

However, she knows the line for the most part. Such as IW delpo match, this year's WC, and Anderson last year. She will essentially leave the room or stop talking.

I hate that US Open logo so much lol

It was an unneeded change. I like the previous one better too.

I don't mind that they changed the logo because the old one never really fit the tournament imo. The thin font doesn't fit the bold and brash NYC atmosphere.

But what they went with last year is just a train-wreck. It's so generic it's painful.
Yep, generic is the word for it. Something you would see in a "business starter pack." Surprise logos.com did not already have rights to it ha.

I just can't wait to watch some first round match in Ashe with the roof close and the chair has to tell the drunks laughing in the suites to be quiet.

I'm getting pretty excited, but mostly because I'm bored and just want the event to come already.

I fully expect Novak to win it, but I'm also not dreading a potential Fed SF loss to him either. After Wimbledon I don't know if I can even be hurt anymore. There's not much to lose. I just want to see Fed fully fit and going down swinging if he loses.

Excited as a tennis fan. Worried as a Fed fan.

Again, there is absolutely no meat to that article. Blick also regularly reports Hitler is living in Argentina at the age of 130. If and when Nadal or Federer mentions and confirms the invitation, then there's truth to the rumor.

Hardly that, I'm simply pointing out the obvious. This article is identical to Blick and contains zero info on Fed attending the wedding.

https://www.essentiallysports.com/roger-federer-to-be-present-at-rafael-nadal-wedding/

If and when Roger announces he received an invitation and will attend a wedding on the heels of his hometown event in Basel, I will be the first to admit I was wrong.
I will say this, it is odd, considering the "pop" culture world we live in that some reporter has not asked Rafa or even Fed about it.

Assuming Rafa does not invite him, I would love to hear the response from both. Then again Rafa already explained their professional relationship.

why nadal is not obligated to invite him and im sure roger is okay. again they get along well as colleagues and have experiences that will connect them for a life time but i dont think either are friends outside of that.

USO has not been Fed's arena for quite some time, so I dont expect a lot.

However, this is the most atrocious play I have seen from Fed considering it is against a guy who should not EVER break Fed. I am not going to spend much time talking about the fact that Fed looks mentally rattled from WC, his serve (what is happening here?), the fact he had so many BP's against, so many deuce games, so many points just thrown away, and the fact that he is getting broke at an alarming rate since WC.

We are at the point where a win for Fed is simply a win, no more, even in the first round, and we need to get used to the fact that he can lose to anyone at anytime. No more freebies. Period.

He struggles to serve things out, that is a HUGE problem. He looks tired, slow, and uninterested to be honest. No player is afraid of him.

Fed has reached the peak of FBPD, as you can see from my post...

All of this said... he won, and any win for Fed at 38 is a blessing none of us ever thought we would have. I love rooting for Fed in matches like this... just dont like having to pick up the wreck I make in the house afterwards... and apologize to the wife...

I almost feel that Fedr was using this match to 'force' himself into rhythm at the baseline. I mean, he was so persistent and stubborn with hitting basically all topspins for the first 2 sets (including returns), even when missing loads. Still, he kept hitting out on his ground strokes. Right or wrong, I think he's planning ahead for later rounds, as he must've felt his ground game since Cinci has not been to his liking. I mean, from the get go, if he'd employed his normal game with slices, slice returns, droppers, etc., I think he'd dismantle Nagal (maybe not super easily bc lack of serve for 2 sets).

The main thing I can take away from this match is that he improved as it went on. Also, it might've been tricky for him bc it was against a brand new opponent, a little of underestimating said opponent, Fedr getting used to conditions, but he got better as the match went on. We'll know a lot more in 2R and 3R. The silver lining is that if Fedr hit top gear pre QF, he'll likely drop his level at SF/F (see WB15 SF).

yeah but given who is most likely sf opponent is, i dont think it will be like wimbledon 2015 sf

Well thankfully he got through this....As much as I wanted to support an Indian tennis player (Nagal played well honestly and and really had his FH working for the course of the match), I definitely didn't want Federer to be the one on the losing side. Wouldn't call the set a scare but Federer was playing incredibly poorly. I just thought a few more such moments in the second and you're staring at a 0-2 deficit. Thankfully he got through that lull. His attitude was more akin to the Albot match from Miami where he almost seemed to not care. I am confident he will improve the next match since he seems pretty let down himself. The good thing with all of this is that this court is fast or at the very least significantly faster than the last few years. Its always nice to see some nice aggressive tennis.

Agreed.

But what I meant was that Fedr was in god-mode at WB15 SF, then played a level or two below that against Djokr in the finals. I was referring to him peaking too early in the SF against Murray. His WB15 finals form likely beats Murray in 4 or 5, and his SF's form likely beat Djokr in 3 or 4 (5 max). That ideal form progression played out correctly at WB19. He played better as the tournament went on, all the way to the finals. He beat Nadal in the SF while playing well, and played even better against Djokr. He lost due to tennis' scoring system, but he was the better player in the finals (and the finals was his best match of WB19).

I'm hoping for more of the same for USO19 (with the big trophy this time ;)).

we'll see, tbqh i think people put too much emphasis on peaking too early when it comes to fed.

We can also just look at it as Fedr having one 'best' match of the tournament. I prefer that one match to be in the finals (or SF in this case against Djokr). I'll choose to be optimistic and write down this Nagal match as the one 'bad' match Fedr tends to have at a tournament, if he had to have one (see Albot 2R Miami19, Benneteau 3R WB12).

Only problem is, he has to peak for the SF and Finals this time around if he wants any shot.

Either way, at this stage I see him having at least 2 matches where he has his "old Fed" days. He got through one, let's hope he gets through the next one. He will have another Millman day more than likely, but if he gets through it I still think most days he wakes up on the good side of the bed.

Roger: Also maybe sometimes going up again, sort of spinning the ball at times. I don’t think it plays particularly fast, esp also was slower tonight, it was night session again. He actually does a really good job, esp on the inside-out, how he gets around, impressive. (2)

Roger: I knew I could struggle, especially with the rhythm. You will be in trouble if you serve as poorly as I did in the first set. That puts the pressure on because he had the upper hand from the baseline. It was up to me to be able to change that (3)

Roger: Trying to forget the 1st set is never easy in a R1 under the lights. People expect a different result. I expect something else. I just wanted to pick up my game, start to play better. That was a relief, going up 3-Love in the 2nd, realizing that it is on my racquet. (4)

Roger: I wasn't serving consistently enough, hitting DFs that usually I don't do, hitting too many UEs. I was in two minds, I guess. Maybe it's not a bad thing to go through a match like this. Very similar to R1 at Wim, the last 3 sets were good. That's encouraging. (5)
