What string tension did fed use at winbleton and at R.G.

Not onclay with gut mains and poly crosses. The comfort factor and slightly longer dwell time helps when you are playing on the dirt.

poly = 10% less than standard strings
so if u string at 60... go figure around 54

I disagree. I play luxilon Alu Roughs and I have them strung at 61lbs, as opposed to multi-filaments that I had at 63lbs. I guess to each his/her own, but I recommend 5% or so.

wow, wikipedia says he strings at 57. either way, how the heck does he control the ball with tension that low?

57 with alu rough on the n6.1 tour he supposedly uses is quite normal....
im strung 55 with 6.1 95....
but if he is in the 40s... i dont know

such a low tension will pocket the ball better, creating enormous amounts of topspin that keep the ball in.

46lbs may be uncommon, but he's not the first #1 to string that low: John McEnroe strung his Max 200g at around 43lbs. I suppose when you've got enough touch to hit any shot in the book, the low tension just helps you get a bit more power when you need it.

i recently switched to poly from sythetics and i read that its 5% lower. I dont like the feel of polys tho so i might switch to some babolat hybrid

I don't mean to sound rude, but Polys are not renowned for exceptional feel...quite the other way around. Natural gut is what you want for feel.
..Unless your saying that you realized this and that is what you meant by feel and the you were saying you don't like how they play.
Sorry. I sort of jumped on that reply button.

uh..and your Signature: wining should be winNing. I have a tic when it comes to grammar.

This is why Fed puts the Gut in the mains and the Poly in the cross. Gut on the main maximize feel while the Poly on the cross maximizes control. I was talking to the Yonex rep and he pointed that combo out to me at last years US Open. I gave it a try and wow what a difference. Great spin, feel and control. Works for me.

I want to try stringing my racquet that low... Lowest I've ever gone is 55 and I had so much power the spin could hardly get the ball onto the court

towards the end of this past season, i strun up one of my sticks at 50...I've been up around 55 (for clay/slow outdoor hardcourt) and 63 (indoor) for most of my time playing. At 50, i must admit that everything felt 'easier'; it took some adjustment re the length of groundies and particularly volleys, but I noticed considerably less arm stress. Not sure if I could pull it off all the time, but i've conisdered it...it's a matter of how much control you can exert over your own shots. if you can generate enough spin to still hit out on shots to keep them in, then go for it- your opponents won't know what hit them!

Hey, I use a Prostaff 6.0 85, and I want to try out the Federer set up.

So it is Gut in the mains, POly in the crosses?

Are they both at the same tension?

I like to play at 60lbs., should I go lower, and what tensions for the mains and crosses?

Thanx;)

From what I remember from before he did Gut mains Poly crosses and strung it at: 44 (mains) and 47 (crosses).
