FH - uncoil shoulders, less is more?

So as usual am improving my FH, trying to, my coach said I dont control my upper body well, too much rotation, and if i want more oomph I need to use more legs and a controlled shoulder turn. Now I know i do lose some control and my upper body turns too much, but I was wondering how less shoulder turn would get me more oomph.

So I tried it, I bent a bit lower on my legs (been doing the same on the BH, works wonders) and when un coiling my shoulders stop before rotating too much. I felt a shorter rotation, but more power behind it, and my shot was much much better, more power more spin etc. And the stroke became just much more compact, i needed less take back, which for me means less to go wrong, and i was stunting my follow through a bit, need to work on that.

So does this make sense to the experienced guys, i dont uncoil my shoulders as much but the shot seems much heavier....?

Of course, Gumby man cannot control his body, so cannot hit forcing forehands.
You need the "right" amount of shoulder, the "right" amount of legs, and the "right" amount of arms to hit the ball well.
What is "right"? Well, it's found through practice and tons of play, coaching and results.

Thats why people say to lead your strokes with your hips...

The lower body can supply a lot of power with less movement, the less movement contributes to higher consistency.

yes i think you have it, use the hips more, when I knew i couldnt massively rotate my shoulders, i kind of knew (without being able to articulate it till you said it) I had to get the oomph from somewhere else which is from the legs/hips.

My guess is as I learn hopefully to use that strenghth, then in time I will figure out how to use the shoulder better too. Right now I just focus on using shoulder as little as possible.
