Flirting with the idea of trying out a Pro Kennex frame -- suggestions?

Can anybody here compare 7G with Ionic KI15? I am more interested to compare both regarding the manuevrability.
I played with 5G and 7G so far. Liked both: 5G easy to manuever but less power than 7G. Looking at ionic KI15 to get the manuevrability of 5G ( even better) and more power than 7G.

string setup

So for my first outing with the 7g (which is at least several days away still), here's what I'm thinking (suggestions or tweaks welcome):

M: Alpha Gut 2000 18 @ 60lbs (lock out)
X: Pro Supex Big Ace Micro @ 57 (lock out)

Thoughts?

Like a racquet, buy more. Enough to last 10 years of solid tournament league play. Search the lake.

Tennis Warehouse Europe has even-cooler-looking Black Aces, some with matte paint jobs. Anyone have more info on these (specs, US availability)?

I haven't tried the 5g or 7g but I've used the Ki5x extensively and I can definitely say that the Ki15 is more maneuverable, even customized to 11.1 ozs. 4pts headlight it is much easier to maneuver.Recently I brought the weight up to 11.5 ounces with a swing weight of 356 and still found it very easy to swing.

Finally got my 7g. Strung it up with

M: Big Ace Micro
X: Alpha Gut 2000 18

Both M and X tension at 58 lock out.

Wrapped the grip with a Yonex Supergrap and stenciled the string bed with the PK logo just for fun.

Play some doubles tonight so will get a chance to take for a test drive then! Can't wait.

...I've liked the Fischers and have played well with them, but part of me feels like I've played well with them because I just stuck with them and got used to them. It wasn't love at first hit or anything. In fact, it took me a few months to dial in on them.

The 7G was love at the 1st hit for me, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I've dabbled with other frames here and there but have always gone back to the Fischers in the end. We'll see what happens with the 7g. I have high expectations. I'm gonna try to commit to giving it a fair shake and use it exclusively for at least a month.

Happy hitting & let us know your thoughts on it.

Cheers!

I'm the same boat as the OP. I've kinda been eyeballing the 13.1 oz Kinetic Pro 5g PSE. The specs are right in my wheel house. Never played with any PKs. What is the grip shape like ?

If you like Wilson and Babolat grips, PK's fall in line with those more rounded types. I personally prefer that type of grip shape to the rectangular shape of a Head grip.

Grips are standard. They hold up great if you use an overgrip on top.

According to me PKs' gripshape is nothing like a Wilson one. My BA98s and Redondo have definetely a more rectangular shape.
Since last week I am customizing the grip of my Redondo. You can read more about this process into this thread.

After my favorite all time string, Timo made my arm sore I switched to Pro Kennex. I did extensive demoing and now have 3 matched 5Gs with one extended. For me the extended takes away to much maneuverability compared to the 27 inch 5G. I tested extensively and settled on the L-Tec setup which gave me the crisp feel I like in a racket.

Didn't you try or buy a 7G a little while back or am I mixing you up with another user? I just broke a 7G yesterday and am planning on extending my 5G. Is the extended 5G a pretty close match to the 7G (I know the upper part of the hoop on the 5G feels dead but aside from that)?

I'm of the opinion that PK has a rectangular grip shape. Made the transition from Volkl to PK Redondo pretty easily.

Comparing L3 to L3, PK7G handle is almost identical to Volkl.

Would be interesting to see how they compare in larger sizes.

Thanks to anirut, scotus, texastornado, mikeler, and ramon for all the opinions on the grip shape. Gee - I'm going to follow your thread with great interest.

I demoed 5 racquets in L4 size. Maybe I'm not really that sensitive to grip shape because I felt comfortable with any those grips. I remember that the Volkyl felt the smallest and the gap between my fingers and palm confirmed that, which usually indicates a more rectangular grip, and it did appear to me as the most rectangular. The other ones felt similar to each other, though not the same (Prince, Pacifc, Pro Kennex). The PK's I demoed were the Ki 5 and Ki 5 PSE. My former racquet was the Babolat APDGT, which has the roundest grip in the industry. I wouldn't say the PK feels the same as the Babolat, but there wasn't much of an adjustment for me. Maybe PK's are "tweener" in shape?

I'm having a bit of dilemma here. Previously I played with Dunlop 4D 300 Tour, its a comfy, low-swingweight racquet however its very low powered. I have replaced the synthetic grip with leather grip but ended up making the switch to BLX 6.1 90.

I felt that my strokes were more penetrating with the BLX 6.1 90 but im struggling to adapt to the higher swingweight, ie: cant generate enough racquet head speed and cannot sustain it during matches.

I happen to own PK 5g and recently I have been hitting a lot with it and I enjoy it a lot. Much maneuvrable and I can generate the racquet head speed similar to the 4d 300 Tour.

I am looking to get another PK stick as my backup. Any recommendation between the BA98, BA98 325 Euro or perhaps the new PK Q Tour?

Enjoy. Keep in mind that it is an extended stick, and the feel is a bit weird at the start (there are sand pockets within the frame that you'll hear slightly), but after an initial getting-to-know phase the 7G comes out of its shell and will hit any shot you want it to hit. Stellar, stellar frame. And the new ones go for much cheaper than most sticks.

Steve, The 7G is the only extended stick that I never noticed the extension. That is, except for improved serving ..... in the Kneissl Red Star and Tom's Machine- both also 27.5" racqets - I was always aware I was hitting with an extended stick ...... never the case with the 7G, one of the better sticks I have used , and always a "go to" in the case of arm/shoulder/elbow problems.

Interesting you felt that way. I enjoyed trying the 7g and felt that with a leather grip and some lead, it starting inching towards a "wow" racquet for me especially on serve.

But in the end, I think I just wasn't willing to give myself long enough to get used to that extended length. I just didn't feel like I was in a groove with the 7g on my groundstrokes, and I guess I wasn't willing to work at it long enough to get into one. I eventually sold it to a hitting partner who already had a 7g (cut down) and he plans to do the same with the one he bought from me.

I played with it for about 3 years (longer than most racquets for me !) and really liked it ...... I went to it from a Vokl and really liked the additional "pop" I got, with no loss of control. I used mine stock.

Of all the sticks I've tried over the past 4 to 5 years, only the Gamma T-7 and the Fischer Pro One 98 have been keepers for at least 1 year or more.

The RZR 100T might be a keeper, but I've got friends demoing right now who won't give it back :) So I won't know for sure until I get more playing time with it.

I too liked and played with both the T7 and the Fischer Pro one .... my all time favorites have been the Gamma G325 (also really liked the 330X) and the Kneissl Black Star that I'm currently using

BA 98 is better than the Euro 325 version, which is just an average stick. QTour will change lives and save African children, but will probably never come out. Sounds like PK is pretty ****y on their releases.

Agree the T7 is an amazing stick, I only wished I discovered it earlier b4 it was discontinued.

It feels better then the Fischer Pro One 98 cus of the grip shape and just how the box frame feels too.

I wish I had the same experience with PK sticks but somehow they didn't play as well.

I still have a Ki5x that I could restring and wack again just to be sure lol.

Back on topic... The previous Ki5 felt sluggish but the new Ionic Ki 5 might be worth a re-look.
