Gonzalez owns Ginepri so far at 3-0, 7 sets to 1. However this is their first meeting on clay. Then again I am not sure if that helps Ginepri any in this particular matchup anyway.

It was a good win over Wawrinka for Gonzo, although I was rooting for Wawrinka. I thought it was practically over after the 2nd set and went out. Well, another curveball from the guy/gal upstair. :twisted: Gonzo in 4 the next match.

How is Wawrinka an inexperienced opponent? He was a finalist in Rome and took a set off Djokovic. Gonzo is a heavy favorite against Ginepri.
Wawrinka is a good player, but in GS he tends to flake away due to his mental weakness.
Gonzo is a heavy favorite simply because he's a bigger name and Ginepri is American, so everyone thinks he sucks on clay. In all reality, he is playing EXTREMELY well. He did beat Andreev, without much hassle either, so I would not say Gonzo is a heavy favorite, especially with Gonzo's form as of late, and his tendency to implode.

I'd say even though Ginepri's few late wins have brought him some newly emerged confidence, it would be little too late.... Gonzalez, after thinking he was out of the tournament, and making such a big come back to win Wawrinka's match -- is on fire right now and -- will play like a beast against Ginepri!

Ginepri seems physically unable at times to get the ball over to Gonzo's backhand, and he's missing the backhand down the line too much. And he has the tendency too much today to go all out when he gets pulled off the court. He just lacks the patience today.

good win, though despite all the glowing compliments and praise from gimelstob and shiras about how strong and fit and how complete ginepri's game is . . . gonzo should have won with the ease that he did.
