to be honest with you, I just want to watch tennis. they all talk too much, and they get stupid because they have nothing smart to say but they feel they have to say something. JMac is actually not too bad, but still.

Agreed, they do get a little verbose at times. Must say that Martina however is the best as far as breaking down the intricacies of the game. I actually listen when she is assigned a match. Have learned a few things from her.

I don't know, I think commentators add color to the match and keep it interesting while the players take a minute between points toweling themselves off, so I'm ok with them as long as they STFU during the point.

I think they should offer fans the choice to watch the matches with or without commentators. I would never again have to listen to the non-stop yammering and bandwagoning from these folks again if they did that.

What a commentator just said about Nalby: Can be up and down but depends on whether he is carrying alot of weight and his physical appearance sometimes doesnt always look overly appealing.

What a way to sugarcoat it.

During Ungur vs Roger.

watched a match on stream today, limited buffering, but best...no commentators, no commercials, just chair and pa, like you were sitting right in the stadium

Streaming is better. For cable TV maybe they should put only one commentator in the booth. When they have two or three commentators for ESPN, NBC or CBS, all nonsense came out of them. They just want to outsmart each other.

well, exactly ... so many times I'm focused on a certain match, and then I hear 'great FH' as if I didn't see it myself. I actually choose to watch some really odd streams most of the times (like Arabic or Romanians ones) ... they blah, blah, but I don't know what they are talking about, so it doesn't really bother me as much :). Arab commentators are really hilarious, they speak like 100 words per minute, but for some reason it doesn't bother me at all :)

LiveScoreHunter is pretty good.

it's not easy to watch tennis in Canada, we get to see masters and slams on TSN, but very often there is some stupid delay ... and God forbid about smaller tournaments ...

I have managed to find some streams on livescorehunter before that had no commentators and it was glorious. I could watch the match without all of the bs,and talking during play. I would even pay extra for the option of watching the matches with no commentators on ESPN and TC if they were to ever offer it.

Yea, she's good. Lindsey D. Is getting better too. I like that she tries to stay neutral.
It's revealing to watch the match replay, knowing in advance who won. To hear most of the commentators one sided, glib and fickle statements is hilarious.

Not a commentator.. but a player :)

A reporter wanted to know a little more about Sloane Stephens "inner dialogue," and what she was saying to herself while she was hammering Mattek-Sands. Was she telling herself, "This is pretty good?"

Well, yes, but as she said:

"There's always more. Because my mom is spoiled rotten, (I was thinking) she's going to want to fly home first-class or something. So I got to keep winning."

I agree. It's just nice to have some chatter sometimes, especially during some of the not very interesting moments.

Saying that, when a player nets a forehand or hits a shot wide or double faults, NOBODY needs to hear a commentator say "Ohhhh, he HAD to make that!"

Yeah... we weren't doubting you there buddy :?

I love the arabian commentators so much. If only they could do every match

Between points in the Tomic game they showed a very attractive female spectator with fairly revealing clothing. Commentators' mics were off but you just hear a muffled "someone needs to get us some binoculars".

lol, me too. they are just hilarious ... I guess they get paid by how much they talk ... the thing is, very often I can't get a smooth good stream in English... so I turn to whatever other stream I can get ... and some of these 'foreign' streams are great :)

What's not funny is that Johnny Mac does not know a kid that ranked inside the top 150. If I could do what he does for a living, I'd make damn sure I know every face of every qualifier and every top 150 player out there, ESPECIALLY if they are up and coming. He makes it sound like he never saw the kid.

What's even worse is that he probably said this before his match against Roger? That's a FOURTH ROUND

^^ it's not funny after you've heard him saying it for the 50th times because I've heard him repeating the same scripted stuffs (guy looks like a ballboy, check his ID, etc.) over and over on previous days in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Kinda like him repeating things about racquet technology, strings, how it allows guys today to hit with massive topspin...blah blah blah....over and over and over, at the Australian, then French, then Wimbledon, then US Open. Rinse and repeat the following year.
McEnroe rarely has anything new to say nowaday. He tends to repeat himself to death. He's boring.
