I think the flex profile will be different. The Extreme Tour flexes in the hoop and has a relatively more firm throat. I think the Radical will be the opposite. A little hoop flex too would be nice.

Yea I agree I just didn’t see the point in making them so close in spec. I don’t mind options as long as they are making enough to crank out multiple models

I was reading the new extreme tour review.... this surely must be a typo:

Brittany - "I would say the Extreme Tour closely compares to the Head Graphene 360+ Radical MP,
I hope not! Needs a beefier SW if you ask me! I’m sure the 360+ Extreme Tour feels great, but the relatively low SW doesn’t quite match the Tour label.

Head 360+ is the one of the best racquet series on the market. You wouldn’t know a good racquet if it appeared in your hand. Take your vitriol back to the Blade Pro thread where you can argue about the wrong beam width of an H22.
100% agree. The only racquet that was changed that is now horrible is the Prestige MP. Aside from that the Gravity, Speed (very improved from the previous 2 generations), the Extreme Tour/Pro are absolutely fantastic frames and the Instinct has been the best racquet they made in years prior to the Gravity. This new radical looks and feels very very promising. Full review without customizing it coming tomorrow night or Tuesday morning.

Add some lead at 3 and 9 like I did and it changes the racquet completely. Everything about it improves. I think I’m going to keep both the black and retail model so I’m going to put 10g of silicone in the black Extreme Tour. That may make it as good as my Instinct MP aka Instinct Pro.

I’ve seen it! I have the catalog :p.
yeah it's the orange or pink/grey stuff... i have seen pics as well...
i don't care much for the PJ.. maybe it'll be interesting in hand but this whole pastel colors in extreme and radical is not my thing. I love the prototype... anyways, who cares. as long as this bad boy hits a good ball sign me up.

glad I found this thread.

I hit with the prototype last week on a demo night. It was crowded so couldn't get into a rhythm...but it was intriguing enough that I want to do an extended demo. As mentioned, it has Lynx Tour in orange. I am coming from the 360+ Prestige Mid with the the "experimental" badged Lynx Tour.

This racquet intrigues me as I want something with a little more power/forgiveness. I thought the Gravity MP was it but something didn't work out with it for me. It's light enough that even a leather grip and some lead to sort out balance keeps it easier for me to play with when I'm not feeling well or out of shape. I really liked the prototype color.

Exactly. You can always send to Curtis (CTR) for that svelte black gloss.

Layup aside, it'll be the string pattern.

They're both 16x19, but the Radical should have an 8 main throat (if it's like the current 360), whereas i believe the Extreme Tour is a more open 6 main throat.

Ok here we go.

initial reaction from 3 kids 2 of which play with customized racquets were very very negative. In fact one of them compared it to a cheap racquet from Walmart it felt so hollow!

I hit with it for 35 minutes of a 60 minute lesson with one of my tournament players after.

keep in mind I play with a 6.1 Stretch with a SW of 355 so this thing felt like a feather to me. It felt a bit stiffer than the Gravity as expected. I restrung the racquet with Lynx Tour at 48lbs because I was out of Hawk Touch. From the baseline the racquet felt better than expected. Didn’t take me long to adjust and hit 60% speed with easy control abs accuracy. It’s not as responsive as the Gravity but the frame felt much better than the last 2 Radicals. In fact I would say it’s a big step back in the right direction.

At the net it’s solid but lacks to flex I love from the 6.1’s, Gravity and classic Prestige’s. Serving felt good for all 3 serves. No complaints there. I will say that both of my kids and I agree that with the right custom work this racquet could be a monster. I’m picking up lead tape tomorrow. We shall see if I wait a bit more or customize it by weeks end! Lol

Will the new radical line also include the S (102) or an oversize versions? I wish they would bring back a 107!

Raizu

Semi-Pro
Do you know the last Radical line that offered an oversize 107 (not the PWR 110)?
Maybe Youtek?
I believe you are correct. I never played with Head until the last 4 years. Always a Wilson guy but the prestige PT57 and TGK 238 are beautiful racquets

Sorry if you have already mentioned this but are you hitting with the MP or the PRO?

Pro will have 20/21.5/21mm, so petty constant :)

I’m sure things like cross sectional area and shape have a far greater affect on how the racquet feels and plays than beam width alone. However, beam width can make a big difference to player perception. Anything wider than 22mm for me just looks fat and wrong.

20/21.5/21 is nicely slim and might as well be constant beam. Looking forward to trying it.

I’ve seen the paintjob or what may be the final pj, I’m not excited but I hope it plays well. Head is doing a great job with the 360+, hope the radical makes a comeback. At the end of the day it’s the racquet, not the paint.

I feel like I've sworn off the Radical line since the last 3 generations of the Radical were so underwhelmingly bad. The last good one, IMO, was the first generation Graphene Radical. That one had nice balance, power and control. But, I am growing more and more interested in the 360+.

It is...but it is nice to have both. Current direction for their paint just seems off. Rarely have I disliked so many racquets. I don't consider myself picky either.

I think the prestige and extreme have the best “simple” designs of the entire line. The gravity is very out of the ordinary and interesting, but isn’t for everyone. Very interesting designs, I liked the youtek colors a little more.

I think you need to give this one a shot. The narrower frame adds some control back to the frame that I felt the graphene generation lost. It’s a crisp frame all around. One of my students is having me restring it with her strings because she liked it.

Raizu, did you have a chance to hit with the MP as well?

  1. What do you estimate the swing weight to be?
  2. How would you compare it to the Extreme Pro?
Thanks!

I have not but I have one that I’m supposed to give @Geoff tomorrow. If he’s ok with it I’ll test it today and review it tonight.

The only thing I don’t like is how tight the racquets were prestrung. I dropped the tension on the Pro to 48lbs and it was waaaay better

I think the MP will be the pick of the litter - if Head makes the MP lighter and softer than the Pro it will take well to added weight.

1. Not enough lol that’s for sure. I picked up lead tape yesterday so it may get thrown on soon.
2. The Extreme Tour has more feel and power than the radical. As expected though since it’s a slightly thicker frame. The feel is what was surprising about the Extreme Tour with the added lead tape at 3 and 9 (about 5in on each side of the 1/4 inch strips) it just made the racquet nearly flawless.

Well I shall let you know tonight! A bulkier Radical with 18x20 could be a phenomenal racquet with the right flex. The more I post on here the more I want to completely customize this frame and see what happens lol.

18x20 not happening right now, however, the 16x19 is not too open, so, as I recall from the Extreme Tour, it felt (with added weight) like 18x20 with all benefits of 16x19...
Thinner beam of the Pro is very interesting to me, and curious to see this layup in the MP, with some weight added. Should be sweet

Agreed. It’s much more closed than the Extreme Tour. The difference is .5mm from the Pro to the MP so I’ll see how it feels stock. If it’s that much better I already have plans for where I’m adding weight to the Pro including silicone.
