Gamma 5800 ELS assembly

Hi all,

Would be grateful if anyone who has one of these could help me out.

I have the machine almost assembled but where the base plate at the top of the stand secures to the machine I am having a little trouble.

In the manual it says there are 6 screws which are used to attach it but I seem to have only 4.

Also these screws seem a little too long for the hole in the machine base. Can anyone who has previously assembled this machine remember having a similar issue?

Thanks.
Phil

Hello Phil

I have a Gamma 5800. I'll check the number of screws when I get home tonight. I think it is only 4 bit will confirm.

Hi Geoff,

I really appreciate that. That would be great news if there is only 4 on yours too!

Also would love to know if yours stick out a bit also. When they are fully screwed in there's still nearly half the screw protruding. Would love to see if yours was similar.

Thanks very much,
Phil

There are only four screws that go down through the turntable on the 2 and 6 point machines. Maybe you used the turntable screws somewhere else. John will be able to tell you exactly what's up and get you up and working in nothing flat.

That's great. Yes I have 4 and they are the only screws small enough to fit the holes on the bottom of the machine so I think they're the right ones. Only concern is that when fully screwed in they still stick out quite a bit.

Don't the screws go in from the top?

These are not the screws to attach turntable to tensioning unit.

This is to attach the base plate at top of floor stand to the base of the machine. Far as I can see the screws screw up into bottom of machine.

I uploaded the page from the manual here:

I looked at the Owner's manual and it has a complete list of what is inside the base and leg carton. Did you check out all of the parts in the carton, especially the metric screws and ensured that everything was there? You can take the list and pickup the correct size screws that might be missing and get them at a local hardware store.

That's the problem it lists 6 screws for screwing the base into the machine and I received 6 of no screw variety.

The 4 screws I mentioned above are the only ones that fit the threads at the base of the machine!

I would take the screw that has the correct size threads to a hardware store and get six of the one that would allow to to screw it down flush to the mounting plate. Usually they have a demo board with all the possible thread sizes to try out the screw you have to make sure you get the right one. I gather who ever you bought it from forgot to include the various screws.

I may try to do that as the current screws are nowhere near flush (pictures included of screws screwed in as far as they can go but obviously without the base plate)

Did you check the alignment of the screws through the base into the bottom of the main body of the stringing machine? The weight and delicateness of the machine can make checking awkward. I seem to remember it felt a little off center when putting together but matched the pictures.

That is as deep as they will go. I haven't secured the base plate to the machine with these screws yet and I'm not sure they will even go deep enough to hold it.

Only one way to find out I guess...

Were there only 4 on yours also and did they seem too long like in my picture?

My machine has 6 screws that secure the base plate to the machine. The screws are in each corner and the other 2 screws are in the middle on one side. Here is a picture of my machine.

Hmm thanks Geoff. Yours is as the manual suggests. I don't think there's any way my screws will go far enough to hold that plate!

Not sure what length exactly they are or what I will need though.

Does the manual say what size the screws should be? I have found screws at the big hardware stores like others have mentioned

Yes Geoff the manual says six M6 x 20 screws (so 2cm in length - which the 4 I have seem to be but they are definitely too long)

Image here of base screwed on and it's not tight enough to grip:

I know its frustrating when simple things become complicated. I seem to remember that there seemed to be multiple holes for the screws. I am sure that you have checked this but just in case have you tried the various holes to see if the screws fit? I would be happy to do a FaceTime type call with you if you want to private message me.

Very kind of you. I tried to message you but the system will not allow me.

Would like to say a massive thanks to @Irvin, John @Gamma Tech and especially @Geoff (who even took a phone call to talk me through it all) for all their time in helping out. Turns out the wrong screws came in the box and John is sending the correct ones out.

I will update here at a later stage when they arrive in Ireland and let you know if all is ok.

Great to have such support on these boards and hopefully when I have some more experience I can help someone else out in the same position!

Phil.
