Anyone else been to the John Newcomb Tennis Ranch in Texas before? I’m going this weekend, looking forward to (hopefully) quality instruction.
It's pretty fun, looks like rain on Saturday was fortunately they have covered courts. If you want to go out to eat away from Newks I recommend the Huisache grill in New Braunfels.Anyone else been to the John Newcomb Tennis Ranch in Texas before? Food and accommodations were good too. I won the “Rock Steady” award!
It means that out of the 40 players there, I was the best player. It’s a nice award and I’m extremely humble and grateful to be recognized. However the camp was filled mostly with 3.0-3.5 players. There were only a couple of 4.0’s there and even though I’m USTA 4.0, I’m closer to 4.5. I hit with the high level juniors and the instructors a few times while I was there. The head pro there said it wasn’t just about being the best player, he said I had excellent sportsmanship too. For example not hitting too aggressively at the lower skilled players. Again really enjoyed my trip and would definitely go again. What does winning the "Rock Steady" award entail? You must be a good player.
i remember they had some hot babes there, is this still the case ?Anyone else been to the John Newcomb Tennis Ranch in Texas before? I’m going this weekend, looking forward to (hopefully) quality instruction.
I’m married, but my eyes still work.lol There were a few hotties there, but we were all separated by our skill levels. All of the more attractive ladies were 3.0’s.i remember they had some hot babes there, is this still the case ?
@TagUrIt How was your experience? I worked summer camp there a few years back. Best time of my life.
Who ran your sessions?
Hope you enjoyed becoming apart of the Team Family!

I did have a blast, the head pro was a guy named Adrian. Great coach, good teaching style and definitely knew his stuff. Even after he spent the entire day giving chalk talks and coaching, he took the time to hit with me for about 20 minutes. It was good hitting and nice hit with the head pro. I’m glad to be a part of the Newks family and I’d definitely go back again.

Depends on who you are and why you’re thereDo people really improve after these camps or is it just an excuse for socializing?

There should, ideally, be a batch for 3.0 and 3.5 players looking to improve and possibly move up to 3.5 or 4.0.
That is the profile of the typical attendee.
OP admits that he is a 4.5 but yet he joins a class full of lower level players and proceeds to beat up on them. A sandbagger. It defeats the entire purpose.
The lower level players paying huge fees to improve should have demanded that such sandbaggers be thrown out of their class.

have ZERO control over the skill levels of the people who were in the camp with me. I never said I was a 4.5 player, I said that I’m 4.0 that’s closer to 4.5. No matter the skill level, there’s always something any player can learn if they have a good attitude and the willingness to learn something new
A properly operated camp would place lower level players in a separate batch. They are paying big bucks to improve.
That is the profile of the typical attendee.
A 3.0 player that wants to improve to 3.5.
A 3.5 player that wants to improve to 4.0.
Are you telling us that this camp did not inquire of your "closer to 4.5" level upon registration and place you in the skill appropriate batch?
Tell us what skills you improved upon by hitting with lower level players (not the high level juniors) but hitting with your lower level classmates. You would have been better off hitting with your peers.
If you want to know more about the camp, how they determine skill levels and group players together book a stay there and see for yourself. Have nice day.
So you refuse to tell us anything of significance of how the camp is run, the registration process and what is actually taught there. No, you have not "shared yor experiences". Only that the food is great and that you have won a mug by hitting against much lower level players.
Congratulations.
On the other hand, there are extensive reviews elsewhere on the board.
Newks seems to be the budget offering, whereas Saddlebrook seems designed for those with money and a serious orientation for tennis.

SoCal San Poobiego snob! The Texas hill country around New Braunfels has gorgeous scenery and lots to do. I suggest a tube ride down the Guadalupe River in a 16-wheeler tube to accommodate you comfortably.I can understand going to Hawaii to make a vacation out of it, but Texas? I will just save the money and play more tennis here.
I can't speak to if anyone else improved their tennis. Only that I did benefit from the feedback of the coaches there. They offered tips and advice to everyone, not sure if it translated into progress or success in their tennis.Do people really improve after these camps or is it just an excuse for socializing?
If wanted to go to Hawaii, then I would have went to Hawaii. lol I can play tennis everyday where I'm located if I wanted to. There is quality instruction right at my own gym/club. I went for the experience and to see first hand what Newks had to offer. Sure if might not be ideal for some, but it was my choice and again I'm glad I went.I can understand going to Hawaii to make a vacation out of it, but Texas? level doesn't matter when you are partying with Newk at night. They all get together at night and party and drink and sing. and whatever happens happens after.I’m married, but my eyes still work.lol There were a few hotties there, but we were all separated by our skill levels. No he didn’t, but yeah despite that it rained the first two days, it was still a good time.Newk make a personal appearance, hang around any? Sounds like a great experience.
I took the opportunity to get courts and hit with some of the academy kids living there,
