Just wondering if anyone has any information or reviews on this tennis club. I just moved to central Phoenix from the east valley and need to find a closer place to play. This is the closest club to me and the fees are pretty reasonable so I thought I'd check it out. Anyone have any insight? Or, alternatively, know of any other place in the central Phoenix area I should look into?

Gold Key is a really nice little club. It's small, but I think it's a pretty good bargain for what it is (I think about a 6-court facility), especially considering your location.
Phoenix has a ton of great public tennis centers too, so you might want to check that out.
If you go to Gold Key, ask for Kristy Erickson. She's a really cool lady and a good pro.

Thanks for the info Jeff. I guess I will just have to check it out to see what it's like. Do you have any idea what the majority of the membership would be demographically- age, family status, etc? I am a young single professional so I don't really want to play somewhere that is mostly kids or retirees. I can't find any reviews of the place online, and I wonder how accurate an impression I'll get by going in person on any given night. Hmm, decisions decisions.

Honestly, I would say the demographic is a little older. I don't play there, but I think their total membership is around 250 players.
Like you, I'm a young (I guess 35 is still young) professional. I myself play at public facilities across town because there are so many nice ones. I live about 8-10 minutes from Gold Key, though. My first thought when I moved to Phoenix was to join the club because I thought it was nice and tucked away. It just didn't have volume or enough good players for me. But, it's really nice.
I met a few peeps at Phoenix Tennis Center, Scottsdale Ranch Park and then got into USTA leagues out here. I've been set from that point forward as far as matches to play. There are also a good number of tournaments.

Good to know. I think I am going to go check it out. I am also shopping around for a new gym (moving sucks), and since they have a fitness center and pool it would be nice if I could just utilize those rather than join a separate gym facility too. I suppose I could always play at public facilities in addition if it turns out not to be enough.

If you need any help when you move here finding things or whatever, give me a shout (JBSikes@aol.com). I did the move to Phoenix thing about 18 months ago myself. Yes it sucks, especially when you're moving cross country.
I joined LA Fitness when I got here (The 24-Hr Fitness nearest me here was a dump). I paid about $625 up front for three years. That was like $17 per month and it's prorated even if I pull from it. There are quite a few LA Fitness locations here in Phx.
Thought that was a pretty good deal.

I was a member at Gold Key until my arm was injured and now I've temporarily suspended membership.
It is a good tennis community with a variety of people and levels. They have a few up and coming juniors too. They do a lot of clinics, host a few tournaments each year, and participate in "inter-club" play wherein the major clubs in town play each other on Saturdays (5 courts of doubles, where the 1st court or two are the pros who play too).
They have a small lounge/pub on site as well, and it's not uncommon to see members sharing a few pints of ale after a hit (or wine, whatever). Tennis channel is always playing on one of the TV's inside.
Price is reasonable compared to most other clubs.
