Good singles AND doubles player.

I think Stefan Edberg was the last player to hold the #1 spot in both singles and doubles. McEnroe was obviously also great at both singles and doubles. You can probably come up with other examples from the past.

The current arrangement has not done much to promote the status of doubles, IMO. As was said in another post, good players don't care about/don't have a reason to care about doubles anymore.

My question is: Who would you consider to be the best player if you have to take both singles and doubles into account, with equal weight on both?

federer is pretty good at doubles, its because hes great at tennis in general, and he just has to change his mentality and strategy for doubles.

Have to add
Max Mirnyi, Fabrice Santoro and Arnaud Clement.
But I'd still think Bjorkman is the best overall.

If Federer played an actual doubles schedule, he would get my nod. He played some great doubles by winning Olympic gold. Bjorkman is retired, so now I say Llodra.

Santoro, and if Federer did doubles he'd do well, two wins over the Bryan brothers with two different partners says something

Bjorkman has still got a few weeks on tour, he retires when the season ends and I believe he may play the year end championships.
