This happened only 12 times in 80 Slams. 15% of the time. It's a rare occurance.
That drought from 1993 to 2005 just bizarre and kind of self explanatory though.
It's insane that the Big 4 made it in two consecutive Slams. If Tsonga didn't pulled a comeback from 0-2 in 2011 Wimbledon quarter-finals, it would be a full circle with 4 consecutive Slams, not just 2.
McEnroe, Lendl, Connors, Wilander playing in Roland Garros semi-finals in 2 consecutive years with same rankings/seeds is awesome. 1985 USO is also in there with Connors and Wilander swapping places.
Going by how many times a player was in such situation;
6 times - Federer
5 times - Nadal
4 times - McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, Djokovic
3 times - Wilander, Murray
2 times - Courier, Edberg, Sampras
1 time - Vilas, Chang, Becker, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin, Nalbandian, Ljubicic, Thiem
Not seeing Agassi in there was a bit of a surprise for me.
Was curious about it because I'm watching 2012 AO (the best tournament ever for me) semi-finals and final once again. Looked for it and wanted to share. Cheers.
